Great news for two different groups of people, those who like the Porsche 911 GT3 and those who are Australian and like the GT3.

This new model is the Australian Edition, which isn’t a regular 911 GT3 with an added cork hat and a pull-out barbecue – far from it. It’s a $350,000 sports car with unique features to set it apart from all the other GT3s in your street.

It’ll arrive in a unique color too, Fish Silver Gray Metallic.

Based on the same Fish Silver Gray that one of the first Porsche 356s also sported 70 years ago when they first arrived over on the shores of Australia, it’s a milestone that Porsche wanted to mark with a bespoke new version of the hallowed GT3.

If you are interested in helping Porsche mark the 70-year anniversary, the bad news is that the car is destined only for the Australian market. So, if you want one, you will need to buy it and import it to wherever you live, all with your own hard-earned dollars.

In addition, as it is aimed at the Australian market, it will have the steering wheel on the wrong (or right) side depending on where you live.

What do you get for 350,000 dollars? Well, to start, the car is based on the 911 GT3 with the Touring Package (992), so you will get everything that is already offered in that package as a base.

This includes everything that was already in or on the GT3, the 4-liter flat-six engine with what used to be supercar levels of performance: more than 500hp enabling 200mph flat-out and 60mph in 3.9 seconds – the standard GT3 reaches 60mph in 3.4 seconds, but the top speed is higher with the Touring Package.

Interestingly, the Touring Package also deletes the large wing, giving the car a sleeker and more elegant shape and looks perhaps less ostentatious.

Over and above the Touring Package, the Australia Edition offers up lots of customized kit and unique embellishments according to Porsche.

The seats look awesome with the Madraskaro check design, looking vaguely familiar perhaps to the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s seat design.

Wheels are Darksilver with the borders in the same color as the car body and there will be badges on the B-pillars with the Australian flag and 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition printed in silver.

For a full list of specifications added to the car you can check out the Porsche Press Page about the Australia Edition, but there are many extras and unique touches on the car, even if some of them will be easy to miss unless you know your GT3s from your GT2s.

Design as always is subjective; you could say that the standard GT3 in electric blue with the big wing is the one to go for if you’re going to drop a huge sum of money on a track-honed sports car. This one looks great however with its more subdued design like on the Touring Package-equipped GT3s and will likely make its customers very happy for years to come.

Now we just need a mini-fridge under the armrest with a few cans of Carlton Draught and a sharpened knife in the glove box - just in case.
