Chevrolet broke new ground with the C8 Corvette by creating the first mid-engine example in the popular sports cars range. And it has left people wondering what might be coming next, especially with rumors of an electric version at some point down the line. But what if Chevrolet decided to turn the car into something more luxurious? Well, artist and renderer @leyangbai on Instagram has done just that. They created the Corvette C9/5, a diversion from the current C8 design to create a Corvette that has more luxurious qualities.

A Corvette Focused On Luxury, Not Power

That wasn’t the only brief the designer gave themselves either. They wanted to create a Corvette that was more focused on quality as well as luxury, compared to just simply increasing the car's raw power. The design of this car is very, very different. A hashtag in the Instagram post reads #grandtour and it certainly looks every bit a GT car. The biggest changes are from the doors onwards. The back of the car has been drastically shortened and it drops away much more dramatically and quickly than on a real Corvette.

Drastically Altered Front End On This Luxury Corvette

Further shots on the Instagram profile also show a drastically changed front end as well. Thin eye-lash style headlights adorn the front and the lower section features a much more pronounced grille shape, with a front lip and winglets breaking it up. A thin section of bodywork provides a divide between the two halves of the front of the car.

The artist states that the front design of the C9/5 was inspired by the Corvette C3, which also includes design cues from that car's hood section, and the face itself was interpreted from the Corvette logo to create a smoothed interpretation of the waving checkered flag.

The Interior Is Vastly Different From The Current Real-Life C8

Step inside the new C9/5 and you will find quite an open space, with the artist wanting to move away from the more cocooned interior of the real sports car. This is to make it feel more about the overall ride and less about the power of the mighty Corvette. This is certainly a very different take on one of Chevrolet’s most popular cars, but perhaps one that could work very well in the real world.
