At a time when hundreds of American automotive brands existed, two men set out with an audacious goal. On November 3, 1911, an automotive engineer and race car driver by the name of Louis Chevrolet joined forces with GM founder William C. "Billy" Durant and created the Chevrolet Motor Company in Detroit.

Their initial objective was to stand toe to toe with the Ford Model T. In the span of a century, the Chevy brand has sold over 200 millions cars and trucks. Now, the automotive giant has their strongest selection of vehicles in the company's history. Here's a complete guide to Chevy's car lineup.

10 Reputation

From early on, Chevrolet became renowned for setting trends and manufacturing vehicles that families became enamored with. Iconic nameplates like the Impala, Malibu, Camaro, and Corvette were household names known for quality, safety, performance, and innovation. Over the last five years, over 448,000 car owners were asked to rate the quality of their vehicles. According the J.D. Power Quality and Reliability ratings, Chevy rose to the top rank across cars, trucks and SUVs. That recipe has also been proven on the track. Chevy could take off the next three Full seasons of the NASCAR series and still lead over their nearest competitor Ford with all-time race wins. There’s no wonder why Chevy has created a brand with such loyal and passionate followers.

9 Safety

Most automotive manufactures prioritize safety when it comes to the design and function of their vehicles. Likewise, Chevy takes on the responsibility of caring for your tribe seriously. Forward automatic breaking, adaptive cruise control, lane change alerts and a rear camera mirror are part of the wide array of optional safety features keeping passengers away from harm. Additionally, Chevy has ratings and reviews to bolster their stance when it comes to keeping your loved ones safe. The brand earns awards for safety and dependability from a wide variety of sources each year, making Chevy a great choice for the parent looking for their child’s first vehicle or for someone who just wants peace of mind while transporting their entire family.

8 Sedans

Chevy has a variety of quality sedans in their lineup. The Impala was originally introduced in 1956 at the GM Motorama show and currently offers a soft and balanced ride with solid reliability ratings. Also worthy if note is the Impala's powertrains, which get the job done across the board. The muscular V6 option delivers an excellent amount of pep on the highway and the city.

Anther iconic nameplate for Chevy is the Malibu. The current model comes with a standard 1.5-liter engine or the optional 2.o-liter turbocharged four-cylinder power plant. The Chevy Malibu has proven itself to be an affordable, likable and practical midsized sedan in recent years.

7 Sports/Coupes

In April of 1964 the world was caught off guard by the Ford Mustang. Out of nowhere, an affordable sports car with no real direct competition just randomly appeared on the scene. The counterpunch from Chevy came in the Fall on 1966. Today's Camaro continues the legend with five distinct trims, and four different powertrains.

The base model comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine claiming 275 horsepower. If that's not enough, the ZL1 model comes with a monstrous 6.2-liter V8 that boasts 650 ponies and 650lb.-ft. of torque. Whether you are looking for your first sports car or a track day machine, there's a Camero for you.

6 SUVs

With plenty of options to choose from, Chevy has an SUV that would suit any kind of driver. Each of their SUVs come equipped with the latest in Chevy’s safety technology and built in 4G LTE Wi-Fi. The compact and affordable Trax starts at $21,300 and delivers a comfortable and peppy ride thanks to its 1.4-liter turbocharged ECOTEC engine.

Then there’s the do-everything Chevy Suburban. It might be difficult to get into parking spots, and you might see yourself frequenting the gas station more with the muscular V8 option, but that’s the price you pay for hauling your entire team in style and premium comfort.

5 Hatchbacks

They’re cute, practical, and get the job done. Their natural habit seems to be the urban jungle, where they can get in and out of tight parking spots and navigate the busy streets with loads of technology that comes standard. However, they are just as capable on the open road.

The Chevy Cruze is a well rated compact car with a variety of features and advanced active safety systems. Available as a hatchback or sedan, it offers decent seating for five adults in a well-trimmed interior. The ride feels sporty and planted around turns and it's the only vehicle in its class with an optional diesel-powered engine for high fuel economy performance. If you're looking for a vehicle with big-car qualities in a smaller package, Chevy’s hatchbacks might be a great place to start.

4 Electric/Hybrids

Chevrolet has made great strides in providing electric and hybrid vehicle alternatives. Fun fact, the Chevy Bolt beat the Tesla Model 3 to the market as the first relatively affordable long rang electric car. Triumphing over the Silicon Valley startup was quite the feat for General Motors, the symbol for old school Detroit.

Additionally, when it’s hybrid sibling the Chevy Volt arrived on the scene in 2011, it quickly became a game changer for its class. The Volt combined the ability to run most daily commutes on battery power with an onboard engine to provide the capability to drive longer distances.

3 Budget (Low End)

If you’re interested in saving money, then Chevy has a few options that may be of interest to you. The Chevy Sonic starts at $15,420 and received the fewest reported problems in its segment in J.D. Power's 2019 U.S. vehicle dependability study following three years of ownership.

One could also opt for the spunky Chevy Spark. Available in an array of vibrant colors, the Chevy Spark is the smallest vehicle in Chevy's lineup. The infotainment system includes a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen, bluetooth, Android auto and Apple CarPlay with two USB ports and a 4G LTE hotspot. You can get a nicely equipped model with great fuel economy, and the latest in automotive multimedia technology for a starting price of an affordable $13,220.

2 Budget (Higher End)

Every once in a while a vehicle comes out that changes the landscape of the automobile industry. GM began production of the esteemed Corvette in 1953.  It was quickly known around the world as America's sports car and has maintained its iconic status throughout the years. Currently, the 8th generation Corvette is shaking things up with its completely redesigned model.  The new mid engine Corvette harnesses supercar performance at an amazing price point. The base C8 starts at $59,995 and hits 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Which means Chevy is definitely starting to make a few German and Italian automakers sweat.

1 Concept

It looks like it should house a brute V8 under the hood, but that's just a mirage. The Chevy E-10 concept is a zero emissions pickup powered by two 400-volt batteries and a traditional automatic transmission.  Chevy reports that the E-10 makes a total of 450 horsepower and darts to 60 mph in around 5 seconds.  The most interesting feature on this concept is the sound emulator system that mimics the noise that would normally be emitted by a variety of tuned V8 engines.  While there still hasn't been any confirmation on whether the E-10 will go into production, one thing is certain, Chevy is focused on being a leader in the automotive industry for many more years come.
