Chevrolet has announced pricing for the upcoming Colorado ZR2 Bison off-road pickup.
From what we’ve seen so far, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is perhaps the best mid-size truck that money can buy. Developed in conjunction with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the Bison comes with enough off-road goodies to make any outdoorsman extremely happy with their purchase.
Which it should, considering how much money you need to spend. An extended cab Bison clocks in at $48,045, while the crew cab hits your wallet for $49,645. This price includes the $995 destination fee and represents a $5,750 premium over the regular Colorado ZR2.
What you get for a $50,000 truck is a standard 3.6-L V6 that puts out 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. An optional 2.8-L Duramax turbodiesel boosts torque to 369 lb-ft at the expense of power, which drops to 186 horses, but either engine is more than enough to do some serious off-roading.
Since it’s an off-road truck, it has to come with an off-road suspension. Which the Bison does thanks to all the same goodies that come standard on the ZR2, plus some Multimatic DSSV dampers, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires, and a set of ZR2 Bison-specific 17x8-inch aluminum wheels.
With AEV helping out with development, the Bison gets off-road protection in the form of 5 skid plates covering the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case, and both front and rear differentials. There’s also an optional snorkel that you can get installed, although don’t think it means your Bison can ford a river. It’s just to suck up slightly less dusty air higher up than close to the tires.
We fully expect the Bison to come with all the interior features of the current-gen Colorado, including a 3rd Gen Chevy infotainment system with USB-C ports. A heated steering wheel, heated seats, and heated side mirrors will make sure everything remains toasty, while a second in-cabin microphone will let you perform conference calls in the great outdoors.
We’re still waiting on the official release date, but that should be here any day now.
