While much attention gets focused on the C8 Corvette, the YouTube channel HorsePower Obsessed uses a new video to explore how the Chevrolet C6 and C7 Corvettes stack up against each other. The comparison isn't as much a line-by-line or feature-by-feature analysis but an overall look at what each sports car offers.

It's worth noting that the match-up isn't quite an apples-to-apples look at things. Presenter Justin uses a 2008 Corvette C6 Z06 and a 2019 Corvette C7 ZR1, but he does his best to smooth out the differences between the Z06 and ZR1 variants.

Exploring A Corvette C6

Seeing how these two Corvettes compare begins with a look at the 2008 Z06. Its gleaming red paint accentuates this car's elongated hood and sweeping lines. Inside the engine bay rests a naturally aspirated LS7 7.0-liter V8 factory rated for 505 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. As with all Z06s from this generation, the engine gets managed by a six-speed manual transmission.

Compared to newer Vettes, the C6's interior is more spartan thanks to an abundance of plastics instead of leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber. The antiquated infotainment system and basic driver's cluster also show the car's age. But Justin points out that some drivers appreciate a more analog setup.

While the C7 shares similar body lines with its predecessor, a more angular exterior give this Chevy a Ferrari-like profile. There's also praise for more solid construction and higher-quality door fabrications. Inside, the leather and other upgraded materials mark a significant difference from the C6. This is further accentuated by newer technology, including an advanced infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.

Dustin skips a discussion of this C7 powerplant because, as a ZR1, engine output far exceeds the Z06 from either the C6 or C7 generation. However, the ZR1 has an impressive 755 horsepower from the factory.

For the record, the C7 Z06 uses a supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 and makes 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Z06s from the generation came with either a manual or automatic gearbox.

Driving Makes The Difference

Corvette comparisons continue on the road, but Justin skips the acceleration conversation due to the engine differences. Instead, the focus is on ride quality and road manners. Behind the wheel, the C6 shows its age and less sophisticated chassis. Pops and creaks are normal and cornering isn't smooth and effortless.

Due to a redesigned chassis and younger status, the C7 clearly outshines its older rival. Handling is crisp and the 2019 Vette feels more planted while cornering. It offers a more comfortable driving experience, making the C7 more suitable for a daily driver than the C6. However, those looking for a weekend ride will enjoy the rawness of the C6 Z06 and a savings of $20,000-$30,000 over the C7 Z06.
