The Hoonigan team loves a wild and weird car. They showcase a lot of these epic machines in their This vs That YouTube series, which sees them drag race some pretty crazy machines. They also like to give us closer looks at some cars in their Build Breakdown videos and this one is very interesting. It is a 1966 Chevrolet El Camino that is a bit of a tribute truck with an LS and small block Hemi engine meshed together.

A New Definition Of Hybrid

This interesting car belongs to Justin and it looks interesting enough from the outside without knowing what is powering it. It is clearly a pretty unique El Camino. It is a 426 ci based Hemi engine but from the outside, it looks like a small block Chevy engine. The unit is actually called the Motown II LS made by a guy called Bill Mitchell. Most of it is Hemi but the deck height and head bolt pattern are all LS. This is how it gets its hybrid status. The core is the small block Chevy though and all in it makes a crazy 678 hp.

Not Your Everyday El Camino

The engine bay is super clean and while it is all old at its heart, the Hoonigan team thinks Justin has made it look pretty modern. For the power that it makes, this is quite a tame unit and there is potentially more to come from it as well. Justin modified the intake manifold in order for it to fit in his El Camino, as it was originally made for an LS3. We haven’t even stepped inside this build either.

Looking Inside The El Camino

This is a car that offers something quite different in the interior. A lot of it is period correct since it has a four-speed transmission and there are 1966 Pontiac GTO bucket seats. The Hurst shifter is a nice addition and the interior is just so clean and looks very comfortable too. Another cool feature, which might not seem like a lot, is the fact that the pickup bed is still clear and used as Chevrolet intended. This hybrid LS/Hemi engine makes quite a satisfying and deep rumble when Justin fires it up, even if he does want more cams on it.
