Getting massive amount of power from a big block engine without the benefit of turbochargers or superchargers is a difficult path. Chevrolet Performance, however, took a route that copies from the past — increasing displacement. Its latest crate engine is not just the largest, but also the most powerful in its history – the ZZ632/1000.

Chevrolet Crate Engine: No Replacement To Displacement

Chevrolet Performance’s new crate engine is essentially a naturally aspirated big block V8 mill that – unlike Mopar’s latest Hellephant – does not require the help of superchargers to deliver 1,004 hp of max output at 6,600 rpm and 876 lb-ft of peak torque at 5,600 rpm.

The number 632 in its name refers to engine’s displacement in cubic inches, which is equivalent to roughly 10.32 liters. It features a Tall Deck 632 Bowtie Sportsman, cast iron block with RS-X Symmetrical Port CNC-machined aluminum high-flow cylinder heads and forged aluminum pistons as well as forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods.

Chevrolet Performance ensures that this massive crate engine can take some beating, since a prototype of the ZZ632/1000 managed to endure more than 200 simulated drag strip passes on a dynamometer. Chevrolet Performance will display the new ZZ632/1000 crate engine at the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, in Nov. 2–5. Deliveries will commence in early 2022.
