If Hot Wheels had done this even as a joke, we would’ve still called it very wrong and appalling. This Chinese firm SVH has created a 2023 Toyota Tundra ripoff which is definitely not winning any design awards on this planet or any other. Anyway, somebody had an idea in China, and they did make it.

The new Toyota Tundra is a rugged workhorse with a strong selection of power plants, whereas the Tundar (yes that's the spelling even if the tailgate spells correctly) may be the exact opposite of the concept. Chinese firms have a habit of this blatant design copying, and manufacturers around the world are miffed about it.

Toyota is not going to be happy with this Tundra rip-off, but hopefully, since there are no big sales numbers involved they will not be bothered by this. There have been many infringement suits faced by these car makers mushrooming across China, but they somehow win their argument subject to abject stupidity. Watching ten of these little Tundars in a tug of war against the actual V6 Tundra will be good fun, concluding the competition by dragging the tiny toys across the field.

Tundar's Dimensions Are Laughably Disproportionate

It looks like they started with the original dimensions of the front grille and then designed the rest of the Tundar after a trip to the pub. That small-capacity engine under the hood is going to freeze to death with all that cooling from the giant grille. Also, that piano black under the grille is going to take a lot of beating when you go through the rough stuff. To compensate for the length of this compact, the front windshield angle is very steep looking like it was designed for Bob the Builder.

The doors are comically small and make you wonder if you can actually even get in the Tundar. The roof height looks decent enough though, a proper tall boy design. And the blackened fuel filler cap is a nice touch. The tiny 13-inch steel rims with plastic cover on them look like the wheels you would put under a grand piano, but bravo for the wheel arches which are appropriately designed.

The real magic starts around the back because this is a four-door SUV with a cargo tail. Can you imagine the space rear passengers have at their liberty? Forget the legs, we don’t think even the torso will fit in there. And check out the intricate design of the roll bars placed in the cargo area, we reckon Toyota engineers could take a hint from that (pun intended). The real question is how did they manage the four doors and cargo bay in that small length.

Performance Is Underwhelming For The SVH Tundar

2023 Toyota Tundra owners can sit easy, the Tundar is not going to be any challenge against the real thing at red lights unless Maverick is driving it we guess. It has a minute 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine which has been sourced from Isuzu. This could be the tiny diesel Isuzu makes as the C-series which develops about 19 hp of power.

The Tundar can hit a dizzying top speed of 60 miles an hour. And we do not expect the platform to be a mix of exotic and lightweight materials making it a light vehicle. In fact, the engine will have to work seriously hard to move all that bulk of a toy. The aerodynamics are not going to help either because let’s be honest drag coefficient was not a property for its designers.

Do Not Take The Tundar Off The Road

No surprises there, with such promising design and performance capabilities and rough business, is going to probably split in half. Even on rough bumpy patches, those small wheels are going to make the ride quality absolutely unbearable. Not sure, maybe they have equipped it with air suspension from Bentley.

The tires look like low rolling resistance units which barely have enough grip for tarmac, leaving aside gentle cobbled streets. Frankly, what is the point of such a device which can barely pick itself with four passengers onboard, let alone heavy farm duties? All we see is that this can be a great platform for electrification.

Those wheels are just small enough to equip scooter hub motors, this will make a great project car for summer projects for college students. Mind you it’ll be a pain convincing them to work on the ugly thing in the first place.

How are they going to run the compressor on that tiny engine while it is trying to pull a relatively heavy steel lump of a vehicle? On a lighter note (heavier pun), it will never be going fast enough to have a crash though. Anyway, Toyota is not going to be bothered by this little joke.
