Everything To Know About These Factory Stock Rides

The 1969 Corvette isn't just any run-of-the-mill Corvette; the model shown in the video is one of 116 ever made that features the 427 Chevrolet L88 V8 engine. This offers an incredible compression ratio of 12:1 and Chevrolet claims that the 1969 L88 engine can offer 430 horsepower when, in fact, the team behind the drag racing channel CarsAndZebras claims it manages to churn out 550. Another mistake was the lb-ft of torque numbers, as Chevrolet claims it makes 460 whereas the channel states it makes 470.

Inside the Corvette, there is a three-speed automatic transmission, which is turbo-friendly. A four-speed manual was available was the model that hits the drag racing track is the three-speed, which proves to be pretty impressive.

Moreover, its competitor is the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This isn't supersport like the Corvette. The ZL1 is the factor stock model that hits the drag race track, which features an aluminum block that is relatively less weight. Of which, could help make the car faster. Chevrolet rates the 1969 Camaro at 430 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque from its turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission. It is rarer than the Corvette, with only 69 ever made.

Both factory stocks saw upgrades with their rear gears, to give them more power to attempt to win the drag race.

With the weight of the Corvette weighing in at 3,454 pounds with the driver, the Camaro is relatively less at 3,300 pounds. Yet, the latter is without the driver so with a driver, the weight could be merely identical to the L88 Corvette. That translates into an intense matchup between the two cars.

The winner of the single heads-up race is the Corvette by a nailbiting 5 milliseconds. The Corvette smashes the race in 11 seconds, leaving the Camaro just behind at 11.05 seconds.

Overall, it was a pretty intense drag race with the cars being so similar in specification. However, the Corvette did have an advantage with slightly more lb-ft of torque.
