The wait is nearly over, just a few more months before Dom and his crew roar back onto the big screen, no doubt with some serious wheels at their disposal. But let's not forget how it all begun, fast cars, action-packed stunts, featuring some of the coolest, and ugliest, cars in movie history.
10 Super Cool - Limited Editon Lykan Hypersport - Fast 7
Fast cars and badass stunts are what make the Fast and Furious franchise so popular, featuring some of the world's rarest cars that most gearheads are realistically never going to see in real life.
And so, Fast 7 hit the screens in 2015 with big boots to fill, and boy did the producers live up to their reputation with the craziest stunt to date. Launching a super rare Lykan Hypersport between buildings, trashing both in the process. Surely a coincidence that one of only 7 examples built would feature in the franchise's seventh installment? Either way, the Hypersport is the fastest car Dom has crashed to date.
9 One Of The Ugliest - Volkswagen Jetta - Fast 1
Of all the cars in The Fast And The Furious we have to admit Jesse's modified Volkswagen Jetta is the one we would least like to have on our drive, the German carmaker produces some great hot hatches which leaves the question, why choose the boxy Jetta sedan?
A certain amount of movie magic is at work during the Race Wars scene, claiming to have a twin-turbo VW V6 under the hood, backed up with nitrous for good measure. In any other car, we would be curious to see what she will do. However, no amount of power can make up for Jetta's front-wheel-drive layout, no wonder Jesse lost out to the much faster S2000.
8 Super Cool - Koenigsegg CXXR - Fast Five
It must be something in the air, how else can it be explained that newcomer Koenigsegg has produced some of the fastest supercars in a relatively short 27 years? And we are not even talking about a small volume carmaker building cheap fiberglass copies, the Swedish carmaker has taken carbon-fiber aesthetics to another level.
The CCXR barely makes a cameo appearance during Fast 5. Limited to a few low-speed shots of two of Sweden's fastest and rarest cars, gearheads will have to get their Koenigsegg-fueled kicks elsewhere. Built exclusively from carbon composite materials, every strand cut and laid to line up perfectly with its neighbors, there's little wonder just 29 CCXRs were built.
7 One Of The Ugliest - Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder - 2 Fast 2 Furious
If given the choice of staying under house arrest or driving Mitsubishis much-derided Eclipse Spyder we might have chosen the former, especially considering the less than subtle purple paint job.
Regardless of personal choice, loudmouth, fast-talking Roman Peace liked it, even putting up a decent fight against O'Connor's faster Mitsubishi Evo, proving his talents behind the wheel. To be fair, the Eclipse wasn't a bad car, we just think the styling department must have been hungover when they signed off on the final design.
6 Super Cool - McLaren 720S - Hobbs & Shaw
Any successful movie franchise is sure to spawn spin-off side stories, the unlikely pairing of Hobbs & Shaw hit the screen in 2019, steering the series in a new direction. Think James Bond meets the original Fast movie, and you would be pretty much on target
We have to admit the story is a little far-fetched at times, but Deckard Shaw adds credibility where it is needed, no more so than at the wheel of McLaren's stunning 720S. Understandably, McLaren wanted to get maximum exposure for their new supercar, the 720S sits at the top of the Super Series with a top speed of 212mph, also allowed the filming unit to use their Woking HQ for action sequences.
5 One Of The Ugliest - Flip Car - Fast 6
Definitely a case of function over form, the unmistakable shape of the now-famous Flip car featured in Fast 6, a unique custom-built machine designed exclusively for the franchise.
Even climbing into the driver's seat is a chore in itself, no handy doors or removable roof panels to allow easy access, constructed around a tubular steel chassis built for strength, ergonomics clearly was not on the design remit. From the very outset, the car had to be fully functional right down to its car flipping ability. Unfortunately, you can't legally drive one on the road.
4 Super Cool - Lexus LFA - Fast 5
We suspect Lexus wanted to be a part of the Fast franchise without being associated with the now essential chain of mass destruction, as a result, we only get a few moments of screen time with the high-tech LFA supercar.
The LFA was the supercar the Japanese automaker never really wanted to build, but what better way to showcase the brand's engineering ability than to challenge the world's great sports carmakers. Credit where it is due, Lexus achieved their goals, the LFA is one of the most competent supercars ever built, added to which the limited availability makes it cool.
3 One Of The Ugliest - 66 Corvette Grand Sport - Fast 5
The 1966 Corvette Stingray Grand Sport should come with a safety warning, anyone laying eyes on this piece of American sports car history really should be wearing dark glasses. Without a doubt, it is unique, but it is also one of the ugliest Corvettes ever built.
Originally, Chevrolet planned to produce 125 Grand Sports, this number greatly reduced to 6 completed cars, making it one of the most sought after and rarest Corvettes of all time. Introduced in the early action sequences in Fast 5, later used by Dom and Brian to make their escape, ultimately meeting its demise at the bottom of a river.
2 Super Cool - 1970 Dodge Charger RT
First seen in The Fast And The Furious, Dominic Toretto's classic Dodge Charger is a bigger star of the movie franchise than the actor himself. Even before the first installment, these classic American muscle cars were sought after, now movie fame has made it even harder to find an original example.
The iconic black Charger has become one of the most copied movie cars of all time, gearheads going to great lengths to replicate Toretto's ride, even down to the fake supercharger of the original.
1 One Of The Ugliest - Gurkha LAPV - Fast 5
If Hobbs were imagined as a car then nothing would match the heavy-weight law enforcer more than the Canadian built Gurkha LAPV. Originally built for military purposes and more recently has been made available for domestic use, we are not sure quite what grocery runs would need a 19,500lb vehicle, but who are we to judge.
Making their first appearance in Fast 5, both Hobbs and his range of increasingly oversized military-based trucks have become a fan favorite with moviegoers, we just hope Hobbs doesn't appear driving a compact.
