The GMC Sierra has always been a desirable full-size truck with massive horses and a bold style that makes it stand out everywhere, like its Silverado cousin. Despite carrying a hefty price tag, the Sierra has always brought a few more amenities and a little more beauty and exceptional capability.

While GMC remodeled the Sierra in 2019, the truck soon lost the spotlight to the much more modernized competitors from Ram and Ford. The brand replied in 2022, launching the more durable AT4X and a luxurious Denali Ultimate, both of which carried excellent features. Even though the Sierra receives a few updates this year, it still carries the same essence that makes it unique.

Now, for the 2023 model year, GMC improves the Sierra’s competitiveness yet again, with a power bump, a new AEV Edition package for the AT4X trim, many standard safety features, as well as additional color and wheel options. The most popular trim in this Sierra lineup is, as usual, the Denali, which now boasts a fancy exterior design and an even fancier interior featuring a new dashboard and a few extra techs.

With a starting MSRP of $65,800, the 2023 Sierra Denali trim boldly sits between the SLT and the AT4. Here are some of the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali's best qualities and why we think it would make a good daily driver.

The GMC Sierra Denali Trim Wears A Bolder Aesthetic

In contrast to the scowling Silverado, the Sierra comes with chiseled, angular looks that seem strong and tough without being overly intimidating. The smaller wheels that enable the AT4X off-road appear a touch small on such a huge vehicle. Although there are a few changes, the Sierra looks particularly more attractive in the Denali version.

With its bold styling and exceptional capability, the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 goes against the leading Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra. This year the Deep Bronze Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, and Sterling Metallic are now part of the color palette.

A Top-Of-The-Line V8 Makes All The Difference

For 2023, the optional Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six engine gains 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, up from 277 and 460 the previous year. The full-size truck's base engine is still the turbocharged four-cylinder, which provides an adequate 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque for daily driving while retaining respectable fuel efficiency.

The more economical 5.3-liter V8 increases horsepower above the basic engine, at 355 hp, but the turbocharger in the four-cylinder allows it to churn out more torque. We love the Denali with the range-topping 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 configuration, which tops out at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. In comparison to the smaller V8, the 6.2-liter engine produces greater thrust with similar levels of fuel economy.

The Sierra makes long-distance cruising comfortable. Engine noise is wonderfully subdued, until you apply heavy throttle. The higher trim levels reduce body roll and sluggish handling in urban areas. The Denali variants include a superior suspension with Adaptive Ride Control and a whisper-quiet interior.

The Denali Offers A Large Cabin and Significant Cargo Space

Compared to other trims, the Denali comes with a plushier cabin design, featuring a new dashboard. We adore the GM-only heated split front seats, which have separate settings for the seat back and seat cushion. There is a lot of headroom, shoulder space, and legroom in both the front and rear seats. The steering wheel and driver's seat both offer a broad range of modifications, making it easy for both tall and short drivers to find a comfortable driving posture.

Although the front seats in the Sierra aren't nearly as comfortable as those in the F-150 and Ram 1500, the seats offer a smooth ride experience on the highway, and the vehicle handles most minor potholes with ease. But when you travel on roads with lots of dips and bumps, it can get a little bumpy.

However, full-size trucks may be difficult to see out of, and the Sierra's design doesn't help. Shorter drivers may struggle to see over the truck's hood, and hefty side pillars may make visibility tricky. It's fortunate that there is a top-notch surround-view camera system accessible.

The lineup features a large bed, several tie-downs, and comes with a tailgate step that allows easy access. Additionally, it has a unique MultiPro tailgate that opens in six distinct ways.

The Denali features a standard brake controller, as well as memory settings for different trailer combinations and trailer camera angles, making it simpler to hitch. Although the maximum tow ratings are not the greatest in their class, they’re still fairly reasonable. The spacious central console inside offers enough place for smaller items, even though it does take up a lot more space than it should.

Another sweet feature in the Denali trim is GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, which is the best system of this type on the market. The system also works when pulling a trailer. It’s noteworthy that the Super Cruise is only available on the Denali trim.

With the new dashboard, the Denali's new internal control arrangement looks more appealing, with push, click, or spin knobs, buttons, and switches that are not only a pleasure to control but are also within easy reach. Alongside the Denali Ultimate trim, a 13.4-inch touchscreen also sits in the center of the Denali dash. It comes with a wide variety of functionality and has swift responses to pushes and swipes.

Powered by Google's Android-based operating system, you can enjoy real-time traffic and constantly updated map data. Speaking of which, the navigation swiftly locates locations and sites of interest. Additionally, the Google-powered speech recognition technology delivers your requests back to you on the screen in natural language. You can control the station, the temperature, and more with your voice.
