The age of the electric car is in full swing now, and Rivian Automobile is one of the clear front-runners. The California-based manufacturer is quite the ambitious car-maker and is looking to make a huge name for itself on the electric vehicle market with the Rivian R1T and the R1S, which are their first all-electric pickup truck and SUV respectively.

In an age where every car-maker worth their salt is scrambling to electrify their lineups and introduce new all-electric vehicles to get ahead of the competition before the internal combustion engine's inevitable demise, Rivian has emerged as a force to reckon with. Their R1T truck is the most talked-about pickup truck in quite a while since it hits two major market segments at once and looks to do it quite beautifully- the American pickup truck market along with the EV segment.

Furthermore, it's clear that Rivian knows what it's doing, going ahead with an SUV as well, which is one of the biggest market segments as well. With the help of the Ford Motor Company, the brand has come with the R1T pickup truck, which has would-be customers enamored, and rightly so. Moreover, the brand is clearly is listening to its customer base as well, as they also recently chose to go back on a price hike along with an official apology.

The Rivian R1T, an adventure-oriented, fully-electric pickup truck is a sight to behold, and it certainly heralds in the age of the fully-electric pickup truck with its capabilities. However, it wouldn't be enough for the R1T to be just sufficient, since the brand has to make a name for itself in a pre-established car market, and that too, with a car segment that runs on reliability and loyalty. Thus, Rivian has outfitted their R1T chock-full of features, and here are 10 of the coolest ones.

10 Tank Turn

Another really cool feature of the Rivian R1T which is also available on the SUV R1S is the Tank Turn. The truck functions on quad-motor platforms, which means that with the presence of individual motors on each tire, the motors on one side of the truck can go forward, while those on the other side go opposite.

This would effectively spin the truck a complete 180 degrees, or even 360 if you’re just showing off, without anything of a turning radius. While this feature had been delayed in both vehicles because Rivian faced some hiccups in getting it to function perfectly, it’s bound to come sooner rather than later, and would really act as the cherry on top of what is certainly one of the coolest vehicles of this generation

9 Door-Embedded Rivian Flashlight

While umbrella holders are the norm now for car-makers to put into their door frames, the ever-so-practical designers at Rivian have also packed flashlights. The R1T neatly holds a flashlight into a small cylindrical hole on the side of the door. You don’t even have to worry about charging the flashlight, as it remains continuously on charging while the doors are closed. That means whenever you need the flashlight, it will be full of juice.

Accessing the flashlight is pretty easy too, as all you need is to simply tap it inside on the visible end, and it comes sliding right out. You’d never have to worry about forgetting to pack your flashlight, ever, and it would always be handy and full of battery. For more portable lighting, there is always the Bluetooth camp speaker-cum-lantern, too.

8 Gear Guard Security System

The Gear Guard is a special security system that Rivian designed to protect everything you store in your R1T. The truck does come with a braided steel cable that wraps around your stuff in the bed, but it also works simultaneously with 5-individual cameras housed all over the body of the truck to keep an eye out from every angle.

If anything bad were to happen to your stuff, or your truck, while you’re away or predisposed, the Gear Guard alarm system would immediately send you a mobile notification, while also blaring the security alarms on the R1T. In fact, the algorithm recognizes when another human being is within one foot of the car, and the cameras then begin recording just in case someone’s intentions aren’t so noble.

7 Waterproof Bracelet For Unlocking

Rivian definitely knows its customer base with the R1T pickup truck. They know that if you’re investing in an all-electric truck, and you’re going to be taking it off-roading, over-landing, and camping on adventures, you just might feel tied down by having to ensure you have your key safe with you at all times. Thus, they add some extra cool points for the R1T with different methods of unlocking the truck.

The Californian car-maker has thus developed a bracelet to be used as an alternative method of unlocking the truck. In case you’re out for a jog, hike, or trek, or maybe you’re on your bike, you can always get back home after your exploits by simply having the Rivian bracelet around your wrist. Plus, it’s also waterproof, so go ahead and dive off that cliff or bathe in that waterfall.

This is a feature that the Rivian R1T and R1S both come with, among their many other faculties. While a speaker in the center console might not sound much, it does take you aback with its phenomenal utility. The R1T allows you to easily remove the Bluetooth-enabled speaker and take it with you when you’re out camping with your family, friends, or yourself.

In fact, this speaker’s utility doesn’t end there, as it is capable of even acting as a lantern to light up the darkness, which is a boon during overnight adventuring. Furthermore, if that still isn’t enough, the speaker-lantern even provides USB C-Type charging ports, so you can charge your phone and other electronic devices on the go.

At the end of the day, the Rivian R1T is a pickup truck, and the bed of any truck is what makes or breaks it. It’s in the name, after all. The R1T’s pickup bed is 4.5 feet long, but if you feel it lacking, it can easily extend to six feet in length when you put the tailgate down.

Moreover, underneath the floor of the bed is plenty more to surprise you. Not only is there a full-size 20-inch spare tire tucked underneath the bed, but that concealed storage can also be used as an icebox or any other utilities you want to keep with you. A nifty drainage hole is concealed in the bottom as well, which drains anything in the storage compartment right out to the bottom of the truck.

Here’s one of the coolest and most unique selling points of the Rivian R1T. The truck houses a cavernous, sixty-seven-inch long cubbyhole. Where, you ask? The hole sits right toward the front of the C-Pillar, and it can hold whatever you might please, including a whole person, but don’t go on getting any ideas.

Furthermore, the lids on either side of this 67-inch long gear tunnel house small storage compartments in themselves too, upping the ante on the practicality aspect of it all. These lids can take the weight of a person too, and thus act as footholds to reach the roof racks as and when you need. What’s more, if you’ve got important stuff inside the tunnel, you can even access it from the middle of the backseat. Rivian has thought about it all, and they’re clearly not playing around.

3 Wi-Fi And 4G Configurations

Rivian offers the R1T with different packages, and the Adventure Package, which is focused on camping and other escapades, would start at around $78,000. With the adventure package, your Rivian R1T would get Wi-Fi as well as 4G capabilities.

An all-electric, all-connected truck like the Rivian R1T will be able to provide internet connectivity on the go. Making things better is the ‘Rivian Membership’ program, through which customers would be able to enjoy free charging and limitless 4G LTE connectivity. That’s a truck that surely takes care of its occupants.

2 Portable Camp Kitchen

The portable camp kitchen is another one of the biggest talking points of the Rivian R1T. The company debuted the R1T’s Camp Kitchen prototype in 2019, and it is finally here. Over the course of development, additions of a shuttle system, and even a dishware set were made to the Camp Kitchen.

The R1T’s Camp Kitchen pulls out from the truck’s massive 67-inch gear tunnel, and then extends and unfolds into a full-blown cooking station. Yes, that means the induction stovetops and the crockery come included. A 4-gallon water tank accompanies these facilities, which truly makes the R1T the quintessential Overlanding vehicle to take anywhere you’d wish.

1 Built-In Air Compressor

via Rivian Forums

By this point, the fact that the Rivian R1T comes with an onboard air compressor unit built into its back is almost unsurprising but definitely cool. Any time you ever feel the need to quickly air out your tires for some off-roading shenanigans, you can just as conveniently fill them right back up with the air compressor that sits to the side of the bed of the R1T.

The kit comes with a hose that is 20 feet in length, ensuring you can reach all four wheels without having to pull or tug needlessly. The compressor kit even comes with a separate nozzle to connect to other stuff that might need the air, like your air mattress, your bike tires, or even a basketball! All you’d have to do is set the pressure you need, and the truck would do the rest of the job.
