The car customization industry is a huge part of the larger automobile world, and California-based customization business West Coast Customs is one of the giants of the game.

West Coast Customs soared in popularity thanks to their TV show Inside West Coast Customs, where every auto enthusiast watched with eager anticipation as to what classic and revered vehicle Ryan Friedlinghaus will transform next. Of course, on the other end of the spectrum, there were certain missteps and incidents of bad publicity that came their way, but by and large, West Coast Customs remains one of America’s most popular and successful customization businesses.

Like any other customization brand and even carmaker, West Coast Customs surely has churned out some builds that left a bitter taste in our mouths, but at the same time, they have also done some undeniably stunning car mods which have imprinted themselves on our minds. Be it turning an everyday car into something ravishing through a paint job or body modifications, or adding a little more oomph factor to an already mean-looking car off the assembly line, West Coast Customs sure knows their craft, and we are here to take a look at some of their best mods which will always make us envy their owners, wishing it was our driveways these mods occupied.

10 Shaq's Polaris Slingshot ‘SlingShaq’

The West Coast Customs team got together to achieve the seemingly impossible feat of accommodating the 7-feet tall Shaquille O'Neal into a Polaris Slingshot, and they began by extending the chassis of the car itself, which saw a growth of 8 inches.

Next, the seats were extended a few inches as well and were retrofitted burgundy, and some crafty and intelligent custom molding techniques from the engineers ensured that the size change remains seamless. Some neat 'Superman' details and embossed logos represented Shaq's personalie, who definitely has a thing for customized cars.

Custom-made for rapper and singer Will I Am, who is a regular customer at West Coast Customs, the 'Rocket' started life as a Tesla Roadster, which the team turned into a supercar, made completely out of carbon fiber.

The glass used is completely custom as well, with a rebuilt interior designed and made according to the rapper's choice of 'futurizing' everything he owns. This is not the only Tesla Will I Am got modified, as he has also been spotted driving a modified Tesla Model S, which is clearly not as tasteful.

This looks like something out of a Cyberpunk game after the modders get their hands on it. A classic car that is legendary all on its own, this custom Mustang got a complete restoration from WCC, from the inside out, including Mach-1 vinyl all around.

What is quite nifty on the team's part is how they painted the front lip the same color as the body, bringing all the attention to one of the most iconic features the Mach 1 boasted of. Intimidating as all hell, this custom warm amber 1973 Mustang is a beautiful sight to behold, and the interior, detailed in the same yellow as the car, acts as the icing on the cake.

This 1977 Porsche 911, the quintessential sports car, was originally yellow, but when the West Coast Customs team was done with it, it had undergone an extreme makeover. Disassembled, stripped completely, and then rebuilt from scratch, the car is a tribute to the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 but still had a distinct West Coast Customs twist to it.

The exterior was redesigned and re-painted in a classic white and blue Porsche color scheme, and the interior had Blue Dixxon flannel with blue leather detailing to keep the colors inside and out complementary. Furthermore, it was even packed with a re-imagined RSR engine, a twin-plug 3.6-liter power unit, and an aggressive, robust-sounding GT3 exhaust system.

Made in 2011, it was Nintendo who had commissioned West Coast Customs to create these life-sized Mario Karts, for the launch event of the Mario Kart 7 game for the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming console. This was perhaps the strangest unveiling in the history of the LA Auto Show.

These life-sized replicas of Mario's personal race car, as well as his brother Luigi's Bumble V car, were completely drivable under their own power, even though the underwater propellor and the hang glider were sadly not.

5 Will.I.Am's Volkswagen Bug

Will I Am has featured on this list again, and this time, too, it's for a tastefully modified classic car. Shaped and built from scratch to look like a modern take on a car from the 1930s, this was a 1958 Volkswagen Beetle, on which the rapper reportedly spent seven figures for converting the old body and its chassis.

West Coast Customs also replaced the drivetrain and outfitted the Bug with a Corvette LS3 drivetrain, and they didn't stop there. To complete the look and feel of a futuristic car, the interior controls, from the climate control to the doors opening and closing, are all controlled by an iPad. The car is valued at a million dollars, and for the way it looks and feels, it's not unjustified.

4 Ryan Friedlinghaus’ Rolls-Royce Ghost

For all the builds done by Ryan Friedlinghaus and his team, he had never worked on any of his own cars until the West Coast Customs CEO's front bumper was ripped off by his detailer, and he then figured it was a sign to finally modify one of his own cars, beginning with his 2017 Rolls-Royce Ghost.

Painted in a root beer candy, the team added satin accents to the car's paint, lowered the stance of the Ghost, and then added 24-inch Lexani wheels, which are clearly the eye-catcher on this build. Painted in copper, the grille and the custom alloys looks truly phenomenal, and this Rolls-Royce Ghost retains the regality of a Rolls while adding a touch of more power and flair, which hits just the right spot.

3 Gunmetal 1969 Chevy Camaro

This 1969 Chevy Camaro is what the CEO calls true American muscle. The team had been thinking of doing a build with a gunmetal gray, and they then decided to work on the 1969 Camaro. Made completely in-house at West Coast Customs, the Camaro has some beautiful dark fiery accents to it as well, which add to its mean and powerful look of it.

Furthermore, the interior was completely rebuilt, from custom leather seats to a custom stereo system, completing the Camaro's tasteful overhauling which retains its classic aura while modernizing it on the inside, not by going heavy on tech or screens, but by renewing the cabin.

2 Will.I.Am's ‘2020’ DeLorean

Via Youtube

This DeLorean was built for rapper and singer Will I Am as well, and the car looks every bit from the future. A single brake light adorns the rear bumper, while a smooth white paint wraps the car completely, with only the exposed grille parts being the black highlights across the body.

WCC also made the car 8 inches wider, redesigned the interior to be extremely plush, and added a supercharged motor to boot. Furthermore, this build is made completely out of aluminum, which makes it extremely light. Valued at half a million dollars, this DeLorean really does look like one for the future, although it certainly is a far cry from the reinvented DeLorean that is coming soon.

1 ColorFlow McLaren 570S

This McLaren 570S is one car we would love to have over any P1 out there. Wrapped in the popular ColorFlow wrap, this British beauty is nothing short of a work of art. The highlight of the build is the wrap, of course, which changes colors according to its viewing angle, and it is the only such McLaren out there.

Upping the ante in the beauty department are its pearl white wheels, which look even better out in the sun, almost seeming to house dull reflections of the ColorFlow paint itself. A closer look reveals aqua cyan calipers, which, even though would possibly have looked better in the traditional McLaren orange, look great just the same.
