The new C8 mid-engine Corvette is on its way, and now there’s a racing version that’s even more visually impressive.

We’ve seen plenty of the upcoming mid-engined Corvette. We can’t go two weeks without seeing a new batch of spy photos of the sleek new supercar wearing an abundance of camo and fake details that drive us insane. There have been plenty of rumors about what the C8 Corvette has under the hood, but absolutely nothing has been officially confirmed by Chevrolet.

The worst is the stupid fake hood design that they have for the C8. It’s so obviously false it’s maddening.

But now we have a new batch of photos that are not of the road-going C8, but instead of its race track-only cousin, the C8.R. GM has had Corvettes racing for some time now, and after the recent WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America in Wisconsin last weekend, the C7 ‘Vettes left the road to allow the C8 a turn.

This car is wearing way less camouflage than any previous Corvette we’ve seen. There’s no mesh, no fake body parts, and only a zebra skin paint job to fool the eye. But that stripey design hardly takes away from its majesty, and there are plenty of things for us to relate back to the road-going C8.

The most obvious addition to the race version C8 is the massive rear wing which takes up the entire rear end of the car. There are also much larger front spoilers and a huge rear diffuser that extends almost as far as the wing off the rear fascia.

On the insides of the wheels, you can see some massive brake disks, while wheel fenders appear to be a little larger than the road-legal C8.

The best part is our view of the body. We can make out vents on the hood, front and rear tires, and rear fascia that is sure to be for aerodynamic downforce. We can also see the massive side air intakes unobstructed for the first time, and they look angular and deadly.

We can’t say for sure what will be shared between the road and race C8s, but there are sure to be similarities between the two. We’ll play the match game more once the road C8 takes off some of its makeup.
