There is basically one American supercar, and that’s the 2019 Corvette ZR1. The 755 hp ‘Vette is a bargain at the price of $130,000 when similar performance vehicles cost two or even three times as much.

In a new video from Road and Track, we get a first-hand account of just how the ZR1 handles on the track, and you’d be surprised to hear how easy it feels.

Sam Smith talks while Travis Okulski drives in this 5-minute review, part of Road and Track’s “Three Lap Review” series. As the name implies, they do three laps of a closed course track and say what they think of the car, pushing it as far as they dare while doing it.

Surprisingly, Travis describes the ZR1’s 755 hp as something that’s easily handled in the Chevy supercar. While most cars with that kind of power will land the driver upside-down and on fire within the first 5 minutes, the ZR1’s tuning and chassis make handling that amazing power a breeze.

Much of that can be attributed to the ZR1’s aerodynamic improvements over the Z06. Sam continued saying that the Z06 often suffered from having more power than the chassis could reasonably expect to direct, losing traction from a lack of downforce. The ZR1’s massive rear wing, front splitter, and rear diffuser help it to stick to the pavement even at high speeds.

The Corvette has always been a fun-to-drive car, and the ZR1 is no exception. On the base-trim Stingray, handling its 460 hp is effortless. On the ZR1, that same feeling of effortlessness is retained, which is surprising when you consider the fact the ZR1 has over half again as much power available.

Sam was a little critical on the styling, calling it “loud” and “obnoxious”, but that’s what the Corvette is. Even at its quietest setting, the engine noise is deafening when Travis puts his foot down.

At no point did Travis seem out of control or unable to withstand the ZR1’s awesome power. And that’s a truly impressive feat for a truly impressive car.
