Ford has released a special version of the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover dedicated to women pilots. The car was built in a single copy, and it was only available to purchase at an auction which was held as part of the Oshkosh air show. The painting of the electric car resembles the painting of planes used by volunteers of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II. The number "38" on the front and in the cabin is the number of participants who died.

Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) History

The Women's Pilot Service of the United States Air Force was established on August 5, 1943, although the WFTD and WAFS operated from September 42nd. Civilians were recruited into it, but they had to fly on military aircraft, for example, Martin B-26 Marauder bombers. During training flights, many of these bombers were crashed, and the men refused to use them. WASP members were training recruits, conducting tests as well as transporting ammunition.

The service was disbanded in December 1944. By this time, the total flight time of its pilots was more than 96 million kilometers (60 million miles), and the death toll reached 38 people. Volunteers of the Women's Service were not recognized as military personnel, therefore they were not entitled to any honors.

The title of war veterans was finally awarded to the participants of the program in 1977, and in March 2010, the surviving WASP pilots received one of the highest civilian awards in the United States — the Congressional Gold Medal.

For the Oshkosh Airshow, which opened on July 26, Ford prepared a special version of the Mustang Mach-E dedicated to the heroes of the WASP. The electric car uses the pain in the style of military aircraft, a star of the US Air Force, and logos with wings.

The car was sold at auction and a sale price has yet to be release at the time of publication. But all the proceeds will be used to support women pilots and young pilots who, for various reasons, have no access to aviation. This project will include the list of such custom cars as Old Crow Mustang GT, Eagle Squadron Mustang, Ole Yeller Mustang, and Mustang Apollo Edition.
