Wind noise has always been an issue for motorcycle riders. When riding on the highway, it can be annoying to hear the wind get filtered into your ears through the helmet. However, it's not just wind noise that motorbike riders have to contend with. Traffic sounds and other vehicle sounds are equal contenders for peace on the road.

If you've always wanted a solution to this problem, then rejoice because Daal has conceived an ambitious device. Daal, a Norwegian startup firm, has been developing an active noise cancellation system capable of helping riders hear what they want to hear. On the product page website, we see that the system helps to reduce wind noise while ensuring that you still stay in touch with traffic sounds.

It also promotes safety for motorbike owners whether they're on the highway or within city limits. For this mini-feature, we examine how Daal’s wonder invention works.

Airpod and earbud manufacturers like Apple and Samsung often furnish their products with noise cancellation because it's an excellent feature. However, it's motorcycle folks who need this feature, considering how they're often dealing with the wind invading their helmets.

Wind noise may end up resulting in hearing loss or an accident, depending on the seriousness. So, riders must get some kind of protection to stabilize noise levels.

What Daal’s Active Noise Cancellation System Brings To The Table

While this is an excellent innovation, the system applies only to the X-lite X-1005 helmet for now. Daal is a relatively new company, as it was founded in 2016. It hit the ground running with a crowdfunding initiative that sponsored its development of noise cancellation systems.

Known as the DXL-5, this invention is a successful communication of modern active noise cancellation technology and Nolan's N-Com B 902 X Bluetooth helmet intercoms. For context: it partnered with the Nolan Group recently.

According to Daal’s founder and CEO, Dag Loe, this system is somewhat different from what we know as noise-cancellation earphones. Using those on the road is a safety issue, hence why the DXL-5 exists. He explains that their invention can cope with the rigors of noise that exist in a motorcycle helmet.

The DXL-5 will create a reverse sound war of the background noise and filter it using the speakers. This should eliminate the noise that bothers motorcycle riders. The system is measured at 150g and comprises a microphone, speakers, and a battery that's good for about 8 hours. The battery is fitted into the helmet’s rear.

How Much Does The Daal Active Noise Control System Cost?

What’s special about the DXL-5 is how it must be built individually for helmets. This means that it's unlike the Bluetooth intercom systems that you're familiar with. It also has Bluetooth connectivity, a feature that allows you to pair with smartphones and GPS.

Because it's available for only one type of helmet (X-lite X-1005), there are plans to integrate it into other models. Currently, it costs $680 and a 50% down payment is required to register a preorder. Shipping should begin this summer.
