Doug DeMuro is one of the most popular automotive journalists in the world. He has amassed over 3.89 million subscribers on his YouTube channel and has his own car auction site, Cars, and Bids, which is catered for the enthusiast. And that ties in nicely with his latest video. This is a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, which Doug describes as a fantastic supercar, even as it lives in the shadow of various other Mercedes supercars. And it is currently listed on Cars and Bids, which technically makes this something of an informercial, but still comes off as a DeMuro review.

A Very Low Mileage AMG

This particular AMG Roadster has less than 600 miles on the odo.  It must forego the gull wing doors that adorned the 2011 SLS as a homage to  the 300SL of the 1950s and 1960s. Though it lost the doors, it gains open air driving and a very sleek profile. But the market still tends to prefer the hardtop, gull-wing door version, leaving the Roadster as a bit of a forgotten gem.  One of this gem's facets is a naturally aspirated V8, producing 580 HP and a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds.

If you aren’t familiar with Doug’s videos, you know he takes us through a car's quirks and features, things we ourselves might have missed. Expectantly, there are plenty of shared Mercedes bits in the car, but there are a few significant differences. The 300SL had an upright and straight dashboard, and this car follows suit. At the back of the center console, is a small storage unit. But in there, is a keyhole. This is a backup if engine start/stop button ever fails.

Exterior Quirks

After turning our attention to the glorious V8 soundtrack, Doug points us to the AMG badge which also has GT next to it in red. That is because, in 2013, the AMG model became the SLS AMG GT, an alphabet soup that brought a few upgrades to the car including about 20 extra horsepower. The car, which appears a bit orange in the accompanying photography is actually LeMans Red.

Finally, Doug mentions that the engine bay could have been shorter. The engine only takes up the rear half of the space under the hood, which in fairness, puts much of the engine weight behind the front axel for improved handling. That is the functional reason.  The non functional reason is obvious in the pictures with its elongated shape forming a beautiful front-end.

If the review tickles your fancy, the bid as of this writing is $180,00 with for days left on the block.
