Rescuing a classic Porsche is nothing new for Dennis Collins, but his latest adventure reveals a 1971 911T that proves the old adage of not judging a book by its cover. In this latest YouTube video, Collins heads to Metairie, Louisiana, searching for a Porsche that’s been idled for more than two decades.

Beneath The Dust Are Answers

An opening of the garage door evokes a “wow” from Collins as viewers see a Porsche layered with dust. While it’s difficult to judge the car’s condition, the silver band across the roof signals this is a Targa. And a closer look teases the black paint.

But, Collins quickly gets to work to determine this Porsche’s story. To begin with, a peek under the hood reveals hints of the car’s original color, which he labels as Signal Green (a bright green popular on different Porsches into the 90s). We also learn that the original engine has been replaced with a more powerful unit from a 911E, although there are no details about the upgrade. Lastly, the car’s rear lighting, which comes from a newer 911, is called out.

Despite the car’s non-stock modifications, Collins is eager to complete the deal and head back to Texas with his latest acquisition. In winding down the video, he recaps his plans for this Porsche. Complete restoration to the original green is unlikely due to the effort involved. But the brakes are to undergo repair, new tires will be added, and Collins anticipates dropping the engine for a complete teardown.

About The Porsche 911T

Developed in the early 1960s as the successor to the storied 356, the original 911 helped to burnish Porsche’s reputation as a boutique maker of sports cars. To takeover entry-level 911 duties from the Porsche 912, Porsche introduced the 911T (T for touring) for the 1968 model year, and the car would hit the U.S. a year later. Horsepower for the T grew from 110 to 130 as output for the higher trims also increased.

At the same time, the 911T benefited from a two-inch longer wheelbase introduced across the lineup for the 1969 model year. Like other 911 models, the 911T could be ordered in the Targa body style, Porsche’s answer to the growing U.S. government disfavor of conventional convertibles. Lastly, a 911T sports a silver Porsche badge versus the gold-toned versions on other models from the same era.
