Serving as a followup to the Hyundai 45 concept, the South Korean carmaker's Prophecy EV Concept foretells the ideas and features that Hyundai intends to develop in the future. Now, Hyundai is revealing further details that the carmaker may use sooner rather than later.

Dedicated EV Platform

Hyundai unveiled the Prophecy during a digital event after the 2020 Geneva Motor Show didn’t push through. The carmaker created the Prophecy to showcase new elements of its Sensuous Sportiness design language, with focus on perfect proportions and aerodynamics.

Its overall design is made possible by Hyundai’s first dedicated EV platform – the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). As electric powertrains are more compact than conventional engines, Hyundai can do away with a wide front hood and a massive center console. This dedicated EV platform allows Prophecy to be as spacious as possible.

Joysticks As Control Towers

Once inside the Prophecy Concept EV, one of the first things you’ll notice is the absence of a steering wheel. So, how would a driver control the EV? The answer is through joysticks, allowing drivers to steer Prophecy just like in a video game. This way, the EV’s dashboard is cleaner, with more space for other features.

Prophecy has not one, but two joysticks located to the left and right of the driver. The buttons of these joysticks are able to control 90 percent of the EV’s functions, including changing the music. As per Hyundai, this Intuitive Human Interface setup increases not just passenger safety but also visual freedom.

Optimized Seating Position

In addition, the Hyundai Prophecy comes with the so-called Smart Posture Care System (SPCS), which automatically adjusts the position of the seat, mirror and Head-Up Display according to the driver’s height, seat height and weight.

The Hyundai Prophecy is envisioned to possibly employ autonomous driving technology. Thus, when not driving, a driver can convert the EV into entertainment space – he or she can watch a movie on a large screen in front, with seats reclined and dashboard swiveled upwards.

Unique Air Purifier

Occupants of Prophecy need not worry about polluted air entering the cabin. The EV features a unique air filtration system with a built-in fine dust sensor. Prophecy continuously cleans the air inside whether it is being driven, charging or idling. These are all interesting features, but it remains to be seen when they will find their way into future models.
