While the Shelby GT500 is the top-of-the-line stock Ford Mustang, many enthusiasts want a little more venom out of their cobra. With that in mind, Hennessey Performance is one of the top tuners for not only the Shelby GT500, but many other performance vehicles.
Alex Roys and Adam Klisares go to the Pennzoil Proving Grounds to test out the drag racing competitiveness against a Hennessey Performance Venom 1000 GT500 vs a stock Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. These two very fast Fords take each other on in a series of drag races to prove not only which is faster but also by how much.
Hennessey Venom 1000 Vs Stock Shelby GT500
At the beginning of the video, Alex states that he knows that the blue Venom 1000 will be the winner against the stock silver GT500. However, the goal of the day is to understand how much the high-performance Venom 1000 version will take the lead by. It's a hot day at the proving grounds with temperatures in excess of 100 degrees, a testament to the cooling systems of these cars as they are each put to the test.
As they start driving, Alex comments just how great the cars sound, handle, and drive, taking particular note of their aggressive speed from 0-145 mph. Unsurprisingly, through multiple camera angles, it becomes apparent that the Venom 1000 will take the win in this drag race. While the stock GT500 manages to bring some brawn to the drag race, it isn't enough to take on the faster, more powerful Venom 1000.
The Hennessey Venom 1000 Continues Its Dominance
In the next race, they go from a roll and this time, try to hit a 20 mph roll. To keep things equal, both cars are in automatic mode, in sport mode, and have their traction control systems on. At the start of the roll, the stock Ford GT500 manages to keep pace with the Venom 1000 for a second but that level of competitiveness does not last long. The Venom 1000 simply has too much power and again wins this drag race against the factory version of itself.
The Venom 1000 is an upgrade package for the Ford GT500 from Hennessey Performance that takes the car to 1,000 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. The package comes along with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty from Hennessey as well.
The package has a long list of features some of which include a high-flow air induction upgrade, supercharger drive pulley upgrade, supercharger hub assembly upgrade, upgraded high-flow fuel injectors, air/oil separator system, and upgraded transmission calibration among other upgrades. As the video shows, it's an upgrade that means business.
