The Dodge Challenger and more specifically, The Hellcat model, usually takes on the likes of Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Mustangs, and any other American sports cars that can offer up a challenge. However, performance cars from Europe also offer some stiff competition when it comes to drag racing. With that in mind, Drag Car 4K has just released a brand new racing video on their YouTube channel showing the beastly American muscle car from Dodge taking on a great of German engineering.
This drag race pits a bright red Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat against an Estoril Blue BMW 440i xDrive. Read on to see how the American muscle car handles the Bavarian bruiser.
Dodge Challenger Hellcat Versus BMW 440i Drag Race
BMW produced the 440i xDrive from 2017 to 2020 and as stock, had a six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine that boasted 326 hp. That’s impressive performance from a car that can hold its own on the track as well as being comfortable as a daily driver. But that might not be enough to beat a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with its monster 6.2-liter Hemi V8 and 707 hp.
While the Hellcat certainly has the power advantage, the BMW has an all-wheel drive system that helps it get off the line faster. Add in performance modifications and it's anyone's race.
America Muscle Car Versus German Sports Car
The Dodge Hellcat kicks off the video with its wheels spinning and it blows out a cloud of smoke over the crowd. The engines of both cars rev as they get ready and the anticipation grows. Then the light switches to green and they are off.
It looks like the BMW 440i xDrive gets off to a better start and takes the lead. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat makes up the ground though as the race goes on and it’s a close match all the way to the finish line. So close that from the camera position, it’s nearly impossible to tell who has come out on top of this race.
As soon as the race concludes the camera shifts to a computer screen displaying the details and outcome of the epic showdown between these two speedsters. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the victor with a time of 12.25 seconds at 119.30 mph. The BMW 440i xDrive put up an admirable display though and finished the race with a respectable time of 12.85 seconds at 110.46 mph.
It’s American muscle that overpowers German engineering at the end of the day, but it was closer than expected for most of the race considering the power difference between the two.
