Dodge Challenger R/T "Angry Bee" Receives NHRA Approval For Sanctioned Drag Racing

Dodge has introduced yet another drag-race focused Challenger, the R/T Scat Pack 1320 “Angry Bee”, and it’s already approved for NHRA-sanctioned drag racing.

Dodge is quickly becoming the biggest name in muscle cars. And we don’t just mean that in the sense they make a lot of big, powerful vehicles--we mean that literally. “Challenger R/T 392 Scat Pack 1320 Angry Bee” is quite possibly the longest name of any car ever made, let alone a muscle car.

It’s so long we sort of need to break it down. To start, 392 is the number of cubic inches the 6.4-L HEMI V8 represents, while 1320 is the number of feet in a quarter-mile. R/T stands for “Road/Track”, while Scat Pack is a reference to a ‘60s slang term. Angry Bee is for the Dodge Super Bee, another ‘60s reference but one that remains pretty cute and agreeable today.

But here’s the most important tidbit for the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320: it’s the fastest naturally aspirated muscle car in the world.

Admittedly, not exactly a high bar. You could argue that the Mustang and Camaro are still around, but both of their manufacturers would prefer to call them sport coupes rather than muscle cars, so it’s sort of like competing in a segment of one.

However, this doesn’t take away from the R/T Scat Pack 1320 accomplishment of finishing the quarter-mile in just 11.7 seconds at 115 mph. That’s all thanks to the aforementioned 6.4-L HEMI V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, as well as a bunch of drag race technologies taken from the infamous Demon, such as TransBrake, Torque Reserve, Launch Control, and Line Lock.

The 1320 also grabs the Demon’s rear axle, which seems a little overkill, as well as a limited-slip rear-diff and 4-piston Brembo calipers. Adaptive damping suspension can be tuned for 3 modes, although Drag Mode is the only one that matters.

New R/T Scat Pack 1320 owners also get a complimentary one-year membership in NHRA and National Muscle Car Association (NMCA), which includes a rule book, subscription to National Dragster, $10 off select events, and 10% off all merchandise. You’ll also get complimentary entry to 6 NMCA events in the Dodge/Mopar HEMI category.

The 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 arrives at dealerships soon with a sticker price of $46,080.
