Check out this Dodge Hellcat Redeye as it battles a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for drag strip and track dominance.
Throttle House is on a roll lately with their muscle car track competitions. First, we got to see the Camaro SS 1LE take on the Mustang GT Performance Pack 2, and now we get to see a Redeye take on the fastest Camaro ever made, the ZL1 1LE.
On the drag strip, the Redeye is the clear favorite. It’s descended from the Dodge Demon and has many of the same goodies that made the Demon so formidable on the strip, including a transmission brake, torque reserve, and supercharger cooling system. It also has the same 6.2-L HEMI V8 albeit detuned to produce only 797 hp instead of 840 hp.
However, 10-second quarter-mile times are definitely possible, and top speed is 203 mph, which is way more than the Camaro.
The Camaro ZL1 is the fastest Camaro, but loses almost 150 horses to the Redeye. On the plus side, the 1LE track pack gets the ZL1 ready for a day at the track. Greater downforce is achieved by a big rear spoiler, enlarged front splitter, and extra canards above the bumper. The Magnetic Ride suspension is tossed in favor of adjustable Multimatic DSSV dampers, along with adjustable sway bars and camber plates. Goodyear Eagle F1 tires help the ZL1 maintain its grip in the corners even better than it already could.
But first, a drag race. The Redeye’s advantage is so monumental that it’s almost impossible to consider a scenario where the Camaro takes the lead.
As expected, the Redeye simply pulls away thanks to its more powerful engine. No surprises there. But what about on the track?
There, the Camaro is in its element. Thomas notes that the Redeye is surprisingly driveable around the tight Throttle House test track, but the Camaro is tight and refined. In the end, the Camaro beats the Redeye by almost five full seconds around the track.
Check out the video above to see how these two cars perform and decide which one you’d rather drive.
