The Dodge SRT Durango Hellcat is a true super-SUV with loads of power and the corresponding impressive performance. It can be really amazing, especially when it went against the Lamborghini Urus and Jeep Trackhawk on a quarter mile race. It's basically a Challenger Hellcat with more room for passengers and cargo.

Nonetheless, it's interesting to see whether the SRT Durango Hellcat (in stock form) can hold its candle against a much sleeker Chevrolet C8 Corvette (also in stock form). Hennessey also wants to find that out, so it raced an upgrade-bound SRT Durango Hellcat against a C8 Corvette.

Enjoying A Race During Baseline Testing

Hennessey just took delivery of the SRT Durango Hellcat – with less than 100 miles on its odometer. In fact, the plastic wraps that protect the seats of the SRT Durango Hellcat are still there. Of course, this a customer's car set to receive the company's HP1000 performance package. As part of Hennessey's upgrade process, it took the super SUV to the Pennzoil Proving Ground for some baseline testing.

Nevertheless, Hennessey perhaps thought the SRT Durango Hellcat would be too lonely running on the strip. So, to add more fun to the baseline test, Hennessey brought along a C8 Corvette, which is actually less powerful than the super SUV but is still a great contender on a drag race simply because it's lighter and has a more aerodynamic body.

It's pretty spectacular to see the SRT Durango Hellcat to get ahead of the C8 Corvette. According to the Hennessey guy behind the SUV's wheel, there's actually a trick to launching the heavy hitter even though it has no Launch Control. Knowing that trick should allow the newly arrived SRT Durango Hellcat to gain a sprinting advantage against the Chevrolet.

In fact, the SRT Durango Hellcat actually built a good lead, only to be slowly chipped away by the C8 Corvette. Nevertheless, the sleek sports car ran out of space, giving the quarter mile victory to the super SUV.

Numbers Don't Lie, But Anything Happens In Real World

While it seemed the driver of the C8 Corvette failed to launch his drive properly, let's give credit to the fact that SRT Durango Hellcat is nearly 50 percent more potent, with power sent to all wheels. Numbers were definitely on the Corvette's side, but things may happen differently in the real world.
