Although the Donkervoort cars are popularly known to be lightweight, the Donkervoort D8 GTO-40 is actually Donkervoort's lightest GTO, it has its body components specially made with carbon-fiber EX-CORE® technology. So much work has been put in place to ensure that the D8 GTO-40 is very compact with minimalistic components. EX-CORE® is the major material used in the D8 GTO-40. It is based on a strong carbon-aluminum-steel tubular hybrid chassis, with a few similarities to the D8 GTO.

The chassis is strong yet still lightweight, making it as much as 22 kg smaller than the D8 GTO. It weighs 678 kg. Because of this EX-CORE invention, Donkervoort was recently awarded the European Union Innovation Grant for High-tech Materials. Although having an EX-CORE body it is still a safe and strong racing car.

The D8 GTO-40 is a two-seater with two doors that features a carbon fiber floor that makes the interior very appealing. Also, its tunnel and floor plate are a beauty to behold. To further complement its interior all necessary information on the fascia is displayed on a sharp LCD screen. The D8 GTO-40 interior is also very minimalist. Its two sports seats with tiny headrests provide some comfort.

Some unnecessary features are not in the car, just to make it as light as possible to give a great sporting performance. It has unique wheel designs, with the Donkervoort logo on each nut on the tires. The bonnet is very long, giving great covering over its powerful engine. The D8 GTO-40's roof is tiny, and its back is open. The two doors are foldable.

The basic cost of a brand new Donkervoort D8 GTO-40 from Donkervoort is about $170,660 and would cost even more as the buyer goes on to add more components when customizing. Possibly a fairly used D8 GTO-40 should be sold for less.
