Doug DeMuro has been entertaining and enlightening us with his "quirks and features" for quite some time now. Going beyond his YouTube channel, Doug also started an enthusiast car auction website called "Cars & Bids" back in May 2020. This website specializes in selling and buying cool used cars from the 1980s and above, and we have seen quite a few impressive and rare cars on this website.

Recently through the Cars & Bids YouTube channel, Doug gave us an insight into the situation of enthusiastic cars in the used space, owing to the recent economic conditions. There are quite a few surprises at hand, but the trend of electric cars gaining traction is evident. But despite the economic setback, some 90s sports cars are still going strong.

But not everything is "hot", as there are few cars that have seriously lost their buzz, including the new Ford Bronco. But Doug stresses the fact that this is a much linear and controlled cooldown, and the degrading bubble has already burst. Apart from the economic breakdown, rising gas prices are also a major cause of this market trend.

Still Hot: Electric Pickups

Electric pickups have found a liking in the used car space, and the notable listing and sale of these pickups on Cars & Bids clearly show us the newfound and increasing interest. Of the various electric pickups on sale, the Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV are the hot movers.

As per Doug, a total of 14 Rivians, and six Hummer EVs have already been sold via Cars and Bids. And these numbers would notably increase, as we go along. And most of these pickups are selling over the sticker prices.

For reference, a Rivian R1T starts with an MSRP of $67,500, and the Hummer EV starts from $108,000. The major reasons for these vehicles being in such demand are because of heightened demand, as automakers are struggling to meet the demands. This is further due to the semiconductor shortage.

Getting Cold: 991-Generation Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 is considered the quintessential sports car. And by all means, it is one gorgeous machine in every aspect. But the 991-Gen Porsche 911 sold between 2011 and 2019 has started to lose its heat. While the financial situation is partly the reason, the major cause of this 911 generation going cold is because of the introduction and spread-out nature of the 992 Gen 911.

These are evolved to be better than the 991-gen models, but Porsche has also been churning out various special models including the new 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design. Also, the 991-gen 911s were highly inflated till last year which has made prospective buyers realize that they can get a new latest-gen model for the same price!

Still Hot: BMW E36 M3 And BMW M2

BMW is still turning the heat up and two models are responsible for it - the BMW E36 M3 and the M2. The E36 M3 was always a coveted choice among enthusiasts, and we are glad to see it maintain its momentum even in sensitive times like these.

Doug states that about 44 E36 M3s were sold through Cars and Bids until now, and their best sale was with a 1998 manual model with 60,000 miles on the odometer for $39,000. These 90s Bimmers don't come up often but when they do, they go hard!

As for the BMW M2, things are wilder. Despite only having one generation that was produced between 2015 and 2021, the M2 has garnered quite the love. Cars and Bids sold about 28 M2s to date, and they even sold a 2020 BMW M2 CS for a staggering $100,000. This car, when new, started from $84,595.

Getting Cold: Ford Bronco And Chevy Corvette C8

This would come as a shocker, but the Ford Bronco is losing its heat. Initially, it wasn't the case, as people were willing to shell out big money for this iconic reincarnation. But now, with Ford dialing up on its production capabilities, more Broncos are being delivered to people which has brought about a balance in supply and demand.

But as per Doug, people are still putting forth unreal selling prices for their Broncos. Top-spec Broncos are still going for over-MSRP figures, but not outlandish ones like last year.

Chevy Corvette C8s also have a similar fate. The ones already out there are over two years old with a lot of miles. And now with new convertibles out there and Z06 in the pipeline, the Corvette C8 has gone cold.

Still Hot: First-Gen Porsche Boxter And Lotus Esprit V8

An interesting car that hasn't lost its heat is the 986-gen Porsche Boxter. This is the first-gen Boxter that was produced from 1996 to 2004 and specimens on Cars and Bids are selling for an average of $10,000-$20,000 which is impressive money for a 20-year-old car. The cheap price and a fairly sporty experience make this a perfect car for someone who is just jumping into the world of fast premium cars.

An underdog that is slowing getting its due recognition is the Lotus Esprit (specifically the V8-equipped model). Three V8 Esprit recently sold through Cars and Bids and were priced from $69,000 to $77,000! For reference, a Lotus Esprit V8 when new was priced between $75,000 to $80,000. The resale prices are not bad for a car that has just come into the spotlight. The prices are set to increase even further.

Getting Cold: Toyota Land Cruiser And Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon

These two icons are losing their heat mainly because of the soaring fuel prices. Both the Land Cruiser and Merc G-Wagon are capable and luxurious machines, no doubt, but are too inefficient. And with gas prices as high as $7/gallon in some States, even the flamboyant ones would think twice!
