YouTuber Doug DeMuro revealed on The Smoking Tire PodcastYouTuber Doug DeMuro revealed on The Smoking Tire Podcast that he had regrets about the purchase of his beloved Ford GT. At over $200,000 this car was the most expensive purchase he'd ever made. DeMuro has kept this car for four years now, a long time for an automotive YouTuber. These mainly came down to the price, and afraid of damaging it DeMuro lived in fear of it for a little while but has embarrassed the Ford GT lifestyle. But as they say, the grass is always greener on the other side. DeMuro regrets not buying a Lamborghini Countach for slightly more, a car which in Matt Farah's hands have more than doubled in value.

After his many internet antics built him a business empire and a career, in 2018 DeMuro bought himself a Ford GT. According to the YouTuber, this was "The craziest thing I have ever done". His dream car from back in high school it seemed cool looking. After a trip to Toronto, DeMuro found that it was also fun to drive. Thinking of it as an improvement over the competing Ferrari and Porsche of the time. But built as a celebration of 100 years of Ford, this car always seemed a little more special. The insurer Haggerty writes, "Because of the GT’s low production and exclusive clientele, it appears that some important people successfully added a dash of uniqueness to their GT". With this in mind, certain special examples will always carry an extra air of cool that a Ferrari 360 could never match.

The YouTuber wishes he'd bought this iconic Italian supercar and doubled his money like Matt Farah.

Doug DeMuro Regrets Buying A Ford GT Instead Of A Lamborghini Countach

We've all experienced buyer's remorse at some point. Be that for a designer belt, some sick trainers, or an expensive watch. Car enthusiasts also usually tend to buy a few lemons in their time. Doug DeMuro's previous collection included the likes of the Nissan Cube, a car most of us would regret. However speaking on Matt Farah's The Smoking Tire Podcast, Doug DeMuro revealed that the Ford GT is a car he regrets buying.

Joking with host Matt Farah that he should have bought a Lamborghini Countach and would "trade one for one right now". DeMuro reveals that he paid $225,000 for his 2005 Ford GT. He'd spoken with Farah at the time regarding a Countach purchase. Farah's Countach cost $260,000, an astronomical figure for DeMuro at the time deeming it "too much for me". Let's be real though, that's an astonishing amount for all of us.

DeMuro estimates that his Ford GT is worth $330,000 not exactly a bad paycheck even after maintenance. According to Classic, an aggregator of used car prices find that the average 2005 Ford GT sells for $391,436. This average figure does include the more desirable Gulf livery-inspired heritage edition.

DeMuro mainly regrets not buying a Lamborghini Countach due to the astronomical rise in the value of the classic wedge-shaped Lambo in recent years. Farah and DeMuro recognize that Farah's has doubled in value, with a resale value of between $500,000 and $600,000. DeMuro quips that Farah "Couldn't afford not to", but the Italian supercar. With fewer than 2000 Lamborghini Countach over the 2-decade model run. The iconic Lambo is as rare as cars like the Ferrari F40.

But it isn't all sunshine and rainbows for Farah who kicks himself for not buying a Ford GT in blue with the stripe back in 2011 when prices sat around the $100,000 mark. While a throwback to the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40. The 2005 Ford GT acts as a swansong to the V8 and the mid-engined supercar. One of the final old-fashioned vehicles supercars before the planet began to take climate change seriously. There will never be anything like it again, it will always remain an icon of the 2000s like the E92 BMW M3 and the Porsche Carrera GT.

A viewer asked DeMuro about his ownership and appreciation for the Ford GT. DeMuro describes his relationship as an "up and down". Immediately citing a fear of the car's value. DeMuro says he's obsessed with it and he has a rule. "If you would take a Cayman, I'd take the Ford GT". While it's still a supercar DeMuro uses this like a regular sports car, or perhaps even a regular Ford. Be that grocery shopping or commuting.

The only drawback, other than the occasional fear of a costly ding that DeMuro finds is the doors. The Ford GT has, to use his turn of phrase, a quirk for a door. Where most doors attach just to the side of the car, or on supercars butterfly up. The Ford GT's door brings part of the roof with them. Meaning that when shutting them, it's pretty easy to hit your head.

When DeMuro bought his Ford GT the car had 30,000 miles on the clock, now with basically daily use in the hands of one of the most eccentric automotive journalists on YouTube this will surely only climb higher. DeMuro's car regularly features on his YouTube channel, often in the background of his garage as he delivers his mid-week list-based videos.
