Not even a quarantine can prevent a few randy hotheads from taking their machines on the open road to do battle with each other on a four-laner on the edge of town. Authorities tend to frown on that type of behavior, pandemic notwithstanding. But this one is a doozy and you have to check it out, as a brand new GT500 takes on a C7 Z06 AND a C7 ZR1 on the street.

Stay At Home Or Hit The Road?

But to these racers, a stay-at-home directive was probably perfect for such a motor confrontation, especially when you're in Fast and Furious mode. It's hard to argue that they won't have to worry about traffic. As for the social distancing part of the whole shooting match, let's just assume the kids rolled the dice that they were clean.

Footage from a series of races that took place April 5—whereabouts unknown, presumably to protect the guilty—saw some heavy-duty asphalt action between a 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 and a C7 Corvette Z06 with the Mustang taking on a C7 Corvette ZR1 in a later scrap.

1 Mustang Versus 2 Corvettes

All the races took place from a rolling start with a dude in the back seat of both Corvettes shouting out a four-count. The first series saw the Shelby and Z06 jockeying within half a length of each other until the Ford outdistanced its competition thanks to its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine boasting 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. The first Corvette, despite a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, could only generate 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet.

The Mustang, however, took on a more formidable foe in the ZR1, which has a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 except with 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque. It had considerably more power than the Shelby and it showed. The Shelby was in the rear-view mirror during much of the action. What helped keep the Mustang in contention was a 10-speed automatic transmission. Most Corvette transmissions are eight-speed units.

Identities Carefully Hidden

Those not into the mechanics of racing, however, probably had a good laugh over the length the participants went to concealing their identities. Throughout the videos, faces and license plates were covered by animated emojis. Looks like a hoot!
