Amid all the hardcore off-roaders making headlines for Detroit these days, the conversation usually turns to the Wrangler's locking differentials, the F-150 Raptor's long-travel suspension and twin-turbocharged powerplant, or the Ram TRX's Hellcat V8. But somewhere along the way, Detroit has completely lost track of the street-sport pickup truck, which used to include stellar products such as the GMC Syclone, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Dodge Ram SRT-10 (with its Viper engine and six-speed stick shift). But the world of drag-strip racing certainly hasn't forgotten about pickup trucks, as proven by a recent video from the YouTube channel featuring a beastly Chevrolet C10 that's been seriously modded to shred tires while running impressive quarter-miles one at a time.

Turn Up The Sound

The recent video takes viewers back to the Santa Pod Raceway in Podington, England, where a guy named David McCallan has been working on his C10. The truck is a 1968 model year, though it's obviously received so many updates and overhauls that even calling it a Chevy might be a bit of a stretch. The heart of the build is a big-block Chevy V8, however, that's displacing 466ci and has received an enormous EDA-built supercharger that renders a hood for the engine bay completely unnecessary.

The powerplant is producing a claimed output of 809 horsepower and judging from how quickly the truck is able to get its ridiculously wide rear rubber smoking during warmups, the number sounds legit. The engine routes grunt to those rear wheels through a General Motors TH400 three-speed automatic on the way to a nine-inch Ford rear end. With a massive rear spoiler, drogue parachute, and side-exit exhaust, the truck certainly isn't going to surprise anyone at a red line. And with runs like a 9.371-second quarter-mile at a trap speed of 142.94 miles per hour, this C10 is living up to its looks just fine.
