For every shiny classic car that rolls out of a factory, you'll find scores of its rusted predecessors littering landscapes, garages, barns and even lakes. No type of vehicle seems to enjoy immunity from abandonment, as evidenced by makeshift graveyards full of dilapidated muscle cars to discarded military mobile units. Whether motivated by sadness, intrigue, or an opportunity to salvage such a casualty, Brit-based YouTuber Jonny Smith received a tip about one such depository for once-glorious luxury rides. In a video released Thursday, Smith discovered the irony of finding cars left for dead in a garden—a spot dedicated to growing things.

Vandalism Claimed Most Classic Cars

Rein Adamson owns the Cardiff lot containing all those cars that he accumulated. "Since 2000, I'd drive an interesting car," he said. "Someone would offer me an interesting car, or I'd find one on my travels all around Britain. And then either the car broke down or I took it to a carriage, have it fixed, drove it in here then continued using the next one. And then another one would come along, and I'd have it serviced and something and another one would come along and then bit by bit, I ended up with all these cars."

In many cases, vandalism claimed several of his vehicles. Sometimes trespassers tore down a gate or ripped open the doors of a steel-frame garage to get to his collection. Adamson likely lost count over how many times he had to replace the gates.

What's particularly sad is that Adamson owns quite a few classic Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes, and other high-class rides now past their prime. One of them is a 1991 BMW E30 which contains a 16-valve engine once used by Formula One racers. Another is a Porsche 921 Turbo with a brand-new engine and, unfortunately, a great deal of burn damage. "Whoever did this threw something into the middle of the car—burned until the fire department arrived," said a forlorn Adamson.

"This is one of my dream cars," he said while trying to clear foliage from the body. "At this stage, I've got no idea what the state of it is." Aside from rust, a broken window turns out to be the only major sign of damage. Further inspection reveals a vandalized ignition system, although Smith believes it's salvageable.

More excavation ensues, with Smith brandishing an electric hedge clipper to cut down all the growth around the Porsche. He's about to get more into the nuts and bolts of the thing until it starts to rain. Still, he wants to pursue bringing his white discovery back to life. "This is an incredible car," he said. "It's just very sad, I think, that it's been left here."
