It's 2022, and we've already begun to wonder when season four of the Drive to Survive will air. Netflix and F1 announced the sequel to the series for this year, but when will it happen? We haven't had too much on the show to even speculate about it. Without a release date or the official trailer, we can only sit and wait. Or is that so?

Season three of the Drive to Survive left us in pure excitement, covering F1 in a strange year that was 2020. But what we really expect to see is the 2021 F1 on Netflix's show. The last year was full of controversy and had a wild conclusion, so we anticipate Formula 1 and Netflix will have a great time compiling the new sequel.

Considering Netflix's documentary-based show covers the F1 season before the new one starts in real-life, we have our guesses about when and what will be in the next season. We also dug around and found a couple of new updates on the show. Stay with us to learn the most recent info about the Drive to Survive season 4 coming to Netflix this year.

Let's first talk about the possible release date of the Drive to Survive season 4. We've been waiting for some news (and the trailer) to come out so eagerly that we forgot to consider the previous seasons and perform our own calculations. As we know already, the previous seasons of the Drive to Survive were launched just before a new season of F1 would start in real-life. Considering the 2022 F1 will begin in Bahrain at the end of March, we can expect Netflix's show to arrive anywhere at the beginning of the month (or earlier).

If we review the previous seasons of the series, it's easy to see a pattern. Season 1 launched on March 8th, 2019, right before the F1 started on March 17th. The second season was out a little earlier, namely, on February 28th, 2020, and the F1 began on March 15th, 2020. Finally, Season 3 was released on March 19th, 2021, and the F1 started on March 28th, 2021. Do you see where we're going with this?

The F1 and Netflix still haven't declared anything specific about the release date, though, so we'll have to wait and see. As soon as we get any new information about it (or the trailer sample to share), we'll bring it up in a new article.

Now to the part that probably interests you the most – the plot. The 2021 F1 season wrapped up with a wild conclusion. Max Verstappen got the title after taking the lead in the dramatic last lap that got us sitting on the edge of our seats. Lewis Hamilton fell behind due to a safety car incident. Which has us wondering, how will Netflix approach the now widely-known controversial season?

We already know Netflix doesn't hesitate to build on the facts in favor of the narrative. It happened in the last three seasons, where we could see some overblown truths and rivalries. So, despite what we may think we know about the 2021 F1, Netflix will still try to surprise us with some spiced-up details, and we can expect another attention-grabbing season.

The 2021 F1 was also much more than just the final lap, which most people mention as the main happening of the season. Yes, it's important who won and how, but there are other interesting aspects of the previous F1, including the Mercedes vs. Red Bull rivalry. But we'll let Netflix take over and see how it all turns out.

Do We Know The Crew For The 2021 Drive To Survive?

The crew is another thing Netflix hasn't confirmed yet. We don't know who will be in the fourth season, but sadly, we know who won't. Max Verstappen revealed to Associated Press at the end of 2021 that he won't take part in the popular Netflix docuseries in 2022. Despite knowing the series is raising awareness and popularity of the F1, Verstappen doesn't like the loose story Netflix puts out without remorse.

“They faked a few rivalries which they don’t really exist,” said Verstappen for the Associated Press. “So I decided to not be a part of it and did not give any more interviews after that because then there is nothing you can show. I am not really a dramatic show kind of person, I just want facts and real things to happen.”

Although one needs to respect such a decision, fans will certainly miss Verstappen in season four of the Drive to Survive. The 2021 run won't be the same without the main actor.
