In what seems like something out of a Sci-Fi movie or TV show, police in Dubai are now going to have a new SUV that has some pretty high tech inside of it.

It's called the Ghiath and is based on the Chevrolet Suburban, otherwise, everything else is done by W Motors. Ironically, this vehicle has a lot of sports car influences, such as the suicide doors, so this isn't the utilitarian police car that we're accustomed to.

According to TopGear, this SUV will utilize cameras which will cross reference passersby and plate-registry on vehicles with the Dubai Police database, which is located in the Command Operations Room. This will ensure that officers will not have to leave the safety of the car unless they are going to follow a suspect on foot. This technology is provided by Abu Dhabi based tech firm Safe City Group.

There comes a point in safety technology where it's pretty much "Big Brother is watching you" and a little bit excessive. This particular piece of tech is one of those that sits pretty close to the borderline of  our fears about the man, part of this is because very little information has been revealed on what powers this SUV or the technology inside as well.

It's probably only a matter of time before every police force in the world is using this technology or similar. Because this really will help cut down on crime, which is a good thing. Though it will make some people rather uncomfortable, even if they don't have anything to hide because this particular piece of technology is a little bit on the intrusive side of things. Either way, though it is cool technology and it will be interesting to see how long it takes for other countries to adopt this into their standard issue vehicles for officers. This is certainly something we'll see adopted sooner rather than later. It's just weird to see that this SUV has some sporty styling as well.
