You may have missed Ford's announcement, (and if you have, where were you?) that a new all-electric F-150 pickup truck is coming in 2022. It breaks new ground for the company, as they also reveal their plans for an all-electric truck production factory. But of course, you are really here for the truck. Now, it’s time to dive into a few details about the machine and the all-new factory building it.

The new center for manufacturing the F-150 is at the Dearborn-based Rouge Centre and once it's completed, there will be 300 additional jobs, which are all part of a huge $700 million investment in building this all-new F-150 line-up. These jobs will support battery assembly and production of the F-150 PowerBoost hybrid, and of course the new, all-electric F-150. Ford is also investing in the Bronco and Ranger at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan.

Now, onto the truck itself – and it’s a great sounding machine. The F-150 will feature new technology that allows mobile power generation; this means customers can use their trucks as power sources, which is perfect at campsites and job sites. Getting into the powertrain of the truck, it features dual electric motors, which aims to give more horsepower and torque than any F-150 truck produced to this day. This will provide instant torque and acceleration, very useful when pulling heavy trailers.

Less Maintenance Required

What makes the all-new electric F-150 such an exciting prospect, and just as exciting as the 2021 Ranger, is that it won’t need as much maintenance as a gasoline-powered truck, creating more than 40 percent in savings during its lifetime. The front is now effectively a giant truck with much more cargo-carrying versatility than any gasoline-powered counterpart. And, of course, fast over-the-air updates will be provided as with all other F-150 trucks in the series line-up.
