Drag racing is one of the very best forms of motorsport. It is all about two cars going flat out, usually down the 1/4-mile, with the aim of seeing who can be the fastest. One of the best places to watch drag racing videos is the Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel. And one of their latest videos shows a Tesla Model S Plaid take on the challenge against a fearsome Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

Electric Versus Internal Combustion

This is quite an interesting race as it sees electric power go up against internal combustion. And races like this are slowly becoming more commonplace. Specifically, the Corvette ZR1 in this video is a C7 Corvette ZR1. We sadly though don’t get any details on any mods to the two cars or the exact power this Corvette is producing.

We get a bonus clip before the race against the Corvette, which sees the Tesla going up against a Fox body Ford Mustang. And this Mustang certainly looks like it means business against its electric-powered rival.

The two cars line up against each other to see who can come out on top. You’d be easily forgiven for expecting the Tesla to launch off the line better, and it did, with it looking like the Mustang just did not see the lights go green. The Tesla Model S then did its 1/4-mile pass in just 9.358 seconds and with a top speed of 149.36 mph. The Mustang meanwhile took things at a much more leisurely pace. It did its pass in just 13.110 seconds and with a top speed of 116.84 mph. But now it's time for the Corvette.

Tesla Versus Chevrolet

The Corvette looks pretty menacing with its rear wing and other ZR1 additions. The two cars get ready for their showdown, with the Corvette seen warming up its tires. As the light goes green, it is the Tesla that gets the best start, and it launches down the straight as it posts a 9.368 second pass time, almost identical to the first pass and with a top speed of 151.39 mph. The Corvette meanwhile was able to do its pass in 10.619 seconds and with a top speed of 131.75 mph. So, it was certainly closer than the Mustang, but it still lost out.
