The Electrogenic Porsche 911 Conversion

Electrogenic Porsche 911

Perhaps one of the most recognizable sports cars in history, the Porsche 911 is a hero car for many around the world. Like the others on this list, creating an electric version of a vintage 911 makes a lot of sense in the eyes of Electrogenic. The car is lightweight, has a unique rear-engine layout, and has an already low center of gravity. Aside from losing the beautiful flat-six sounds, an EV powertrain is a shoe-in for the 911.

Specs on the Electrogenic 911 conversion depend on a few factors. The company is offering two versions, the E62, and E62s, both drop-in conversion kits for the G-Body and 964 chassis 911s. E62 is a 162 kW motor, good enough for sub-5-second 0-60 times, nearly as quick as a 964-era 911 Turbo.

When the buyer opts for an E62s package, things get a bit crazier, the 240 kW motor propels the EV-converted 911 to a claimed 3.8 second 0-60 time, on par with a current model (992) 911 GT3 Touring. Both versions of the Electrogenic 911 have a 62 kWh battery pack, separated between the factory gas tank location and low down in the engine bay, that's good for at least 200 miles of range.

Another iconic and instantly recognizable sports car, the Jaguar E-Type, is the second vehicle in the Electrogenic conversion stable. Well, perhaps this isn't really the second vehicle, with Electrogenic being a British company, one would assume that they're quite fond of the classic Jag. Really, who isn't an E-Type fan? This icon has been resto-modded in every way possible, all over the globe. Now owners looking to prolong their classic Jaguar ownership have another choice, a 200-mile range EV conversion from Electrogenic.

Compatible with both coupe and convertible platforms, Electrogenic's E43, E62r, and E48 kits offer varying performance in their signature neat-and-tidy drop-in packages. Designed with long-term reliability in mind, as well as being completely reversible, these kits bring the high-tech world of electric power into the classic beauty of the E-Type. The E43 kit utilizes a 43 kWh battery and 120 kW motor, good for about 150 miles of real-world range.

For those looking to get a bit more range out of their conversion, the E62r bumps the battery pack up to 62 kWh, enough for over 200 miles of range. For the performance-oriented customer, Electrogenic offers the E48 kit, combining a high-output 150 kW motor with a 48 kWh battery pack. This combo delivers a sub 5 second 0-60 time as well as 150 miles of range.

Electrogenic Will Convert Your Defender Too!

Electrogenic Land Rover Defender
Electrogenic

British icons such as the Land Rover Defender have a loyal following. Although many Defender loyalists certainly want to deal with a charming, loud, leaky, old petrol or diesel engine, there are definitely some owners who do not. While that old, tractor-like engine has its benefit, wouldn't it be nice to silently and seamlessly commute in a retro-cool classic defender, laughing at all the people waiting in line at the gas station? Electrogenic believes that there's a growing number of people looking to do just this.

They're ready to serve that customer base with their drop-in EV conversion kit for the Land Rover. Just like the others, the Land Rover kits are designed as a package EV solution, with no irreversible modifications to the vehicle. The kits all retain the full-time 4wd system of the factory design, including the two-speed transfer case. There are both 120 kW and 150 kW engine options, as well as 62 kWh, 70 kWh, and 93 kWh battery sizes available.

The range is a claimed 130 to 150 miles. The added weight and 4wd system of the Electric Land Rover obviously make it less efficient than the sports car models. Although Electrogenic claims "muscular acceleration" for this one, there are no claimed 0-60 numbers, not that anyone was expecting a miracle from a Defender.

All of these kits can be seen on the Electrogenic website, here.
