Sir Elton John is selling his 1997 Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
It looks like Sir Elton John may be getting ready for retirement. Hot on the heels of announcing his farewell world tour, Elton John is offloading his classic 1997 Aston Martin V8 Vantage V550, ‘90s-style carphone and all.
And Elton hasn’t been too hard on the old girl either. This Vantage only has 8663 miles on the odometer and has been kept in pristine condition. It’s expected to fetch anywhere from $265,400 to $335,250 USD when it’s put up for auction at Silverstone Auctions Race Retro Classic Car Sale on February 24-25.
This particular V8 Vantage 550 was handbuilt in Aston Martin’s factory in Newport Pagnell and made specific to Elton John’s order. He asked for a black exterior with matching leather interior but was told that they couldn’t fit it with massive headlamps to mirror his choice in sunglasses.
Even for today, this ‘90s sportscar is powerful. Powered by a 5.3-liter V8 with twin Eaton superchargers, the heart of this car puts out around 550 horses and an equal amount of lb-ft in torque. From zero to sixty is a clean 4.6 seconds, and it has a theoretical top speed of 191 mph. Not that Elton has ever got it up that fast.
It’s also a collectible with only 240 V550s ever made. This Vantage would go for a pretty penny even without its famous former owner, but with Elton John previous behind the wheel the price is expected to skyrocket.
“Sir Elton is a global superstar and is still making headlines around the world, so it’s a pleasure to offer for sale this Aston Martin that he ordered new back in 1997,” said Adam Rutter, classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions.
“As well as enjoying celebrity ownership, this stunning V8 Vantage has been maintained regardless of expense and has a mere 8,663 miles on the clock. That’s equivalent to being driven only about 400 miles a year.”
