It’s fast, it’s sleek, it’s electric, and no, it’s not a Tesla. Meet the Genesis GV60 Performance, the fully electric Korean luxury SUV that rivals the likes of the Tesla Model Y Performance, Ford the Mach-E GT and the BMW iX 50. Based on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the GV60 Performance offers 483 hp and executes a 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. To put things into perspective, it is much faster than an Aston Martin DBX but it is quite similar to its rivals such as the Mach-E, with only 3hp more than the American electric SUV. True, the GV60 might not be the first option you’d think of when purchasing an electric SUV. But after a look at Hagerty’s quiet, electric drag race, the Korean EV might be the option you’ll want to consider after seeing how it performs against the others. And as an added bonus, you even get to find out how the GV60 performs against a Chevrolet Corvette.

For the first race, the GV60 Performance competes against the Mach-E GT and the BMW iX 50 in a ¼ mile race. And quite unexpectedly, the Korean EV wins the race with ease, as it quickly leaves its competition behind and crosses the finish line at 12.3 seconds. The iX crosses the line not so far behind at 12.4 seconds, but at a higher speed than the GV60 despite its slow start proving that it performs best as it reaches higher speeds. The German EV flies past the Mach-E with ease but the ¼ mile distance is unfortunately not enough to overtake the winning car. As for the Mach-E, it delivers a fantastic 0-60 performance in 3.7 seconds, getting off the line instantly and closely keeping up with the GV60, but it struggles to maintain its speed and quickly falls back to cross the line much later at 12.6 seconds.

The GV60 proved how quick it was against its competition but how would it perform against a petrol sports car? For this second race, a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette joins the EV on the starting line. Once again, the GV60 jumps off the line and instantly takes the lead, leaving the muscle car in the dust. Or so you think, until the power balance starts shifting. Just as the Corvette is about to fly past the GV60, both cars cross the line at 12.3 seconds, but the Corvette crosses it 9 mph faster than the GV60, at 119 mph.

The Tesla Model Y Finally Has A Worthy Rival

Last but not least, the GV60 competes against the benchmark of EVs, which is none other than the Tesla Model Y. Both EVs are close competitors in terms of performance figures, with 470 hp for the American EV. Crossing the line 0.03 seconds apart, the GV60 wins the race, roughly half a car’s length ahead of the American EV. And though the Tesla catches up to the Genesis a quarter way down the track, the GV60 easily beats the Model Y off the line, despite being 423 lb heavier. It is safe to say that Tesla seems to have finally found a serious contender.

Overall, the GV60 brilliantly wins each of the ¼ mile races thanks to a rapid start off the line. And though other models do catch up with the Genesis as it starts pulling power, it is a car that successfully proved itself both against competitors and faster cars during this race. To use Hagerty’s Jason Cammisa’s words, we can safely conclude that the GV60 is “a car from a company that can do nothing wrong”.
