13 Tesla
Tesla is making headway as the leader in the EV segment. Along with their most recent release of the Model 3 luxury sedan, their long-awaited and lauded electric hypercar, the Tesla Roadster, is expected to hit the market next year. We're talking about a groundbreaking 1.9 seconds 0-60 and a top speed that exceeds 250 mph — all in a compact, fully electric roadster running on a massive 200kWh battery that supplies power to three different electric engines. But the story doesn't end there: more casual drivers will be happy to learn Tesla is also releasing the Y model, a four-door cross-over starting at a reasonable $39,000.
12 Opel
This German brand has recently jumped on the EV bandwagon by announcing two new, fully-electric cars to be released in 2020. We're talking about the newest generation of Corsa, the Corsa-E, and the Opel Mokka X.
The latter will be distributed in the US under the Buick badge, while UK residents will be buying a Vauxhall. Both cars are made in an effort to enter the compact, affordable EV segment that's likely going to appeal to buyers wishing to partake in the sustainability of EVs at an affordable price.
11 Peugeot
French Peugeot recently announced the smallest SUV they've ever made is going to hit the streets in 2020, and buyers will be able to opt for a fully-electric version. This small, electric-powered SUV is going to be called the e-2008, while the petrol designation will drop the "e." The car will be geared towards the average buyer, featuring a 136 horsepower engine, and will offer a refined style and comfort of Peugeot at a traditionally affordable price.
10 Lightyear
Lightyear is a newcomer on the EV market, yet their future releases are met with high enthusiasm. Their project, aimed for release in 2020, is called the Lightyear One. The car is partly solar-powered, with a projected range of 450 miles. The Lightyear One is going to compete in the luxury five-seater hatchback segment, given its estimated price of 149,000 Euros, or roughly $168,000.
9 BMW
BMW enthusiasts will be happy to know that their newest EV model, the iX3 is also among the cars announced for public release in 2020. Like its predecessor, the iX3 is a compact SUV boasting BMW's refined style and upscale features. However, this one will feature an electric motor.
The company hasn't yet announced the exact date of the official release, but fully-drivable prototypes are already out there. BMW also announced plans for the release of the new i4 model sometime next year, but no precise information had yet been provided.
8 Mini
Although no exact release date was given yet, as of 2020, you can expect to see fully electric Mini Coopers on the streets. According to Mini, the company is expanding into the EV segment by equipping one of their most popular models with a 32.6kWh lithium-ion battery powering a fully electric drivetrain.
The overall design enhancements of the new Mini Cooper SE are going to be minor, however. This new drivetrain will deliver quite a punch in the small city car, sending 181 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels, allowing for a 7.3-second 0-60 acceleration.
7 Audi
Audi has announced the release of their fully-electric midsize SUV dubbed the Q4 E-Tron. Scheduled for the end of 2020, this car will compete with the new Mercedes EQC in the luxury midsize sedan segment, priced in the $60,000 ballpark. The E-Tron's electric engine will be capable of sustaining a 280-mile drive while warranting a solid road capability.
6 Pininfarina
Exciting news from the Italian luxury performance brand Pininfarina: the newest model, the Battista (PF0), is scheduled for release in 2020. The car in question is an exclusive supercar set at $2.5 million. It will utilize the very platform built by Rimac Automobili for their C_Two supercar. Each of the 150 cars produced will be able to hit 60mph in less than two seconds, eventually reaching a top speed of 217mph.
5 Rimac Automobili
This Croatian electric hypercar brand needs no introduction. After their lauded 2013 Concept One, the company is finally able to release their newest innovation dubbed the C_Two to the public starting 2020.
Fully powered by four individual electric motors, the car is projected to break the barriers of supercar performance as it develops a combined power output of 1914 horsepower and twists with a force of 1,686lb-ft. This gives the $1 million C_Two a record-breaking 0-60 time of just 1.85 seconds as it climbs up to a factory-limited 258 mph.
4 Porsche
Porsche is another established German brand working on introducing a fully-electric car into their lineup. It's called the Taycan and will occupy the four-door electric performance sedan segment. The price will closely resemble its gas-powered counterpart, the Panamera; however, the Taycan will be built upon an entirely different platform.
Being a Porsche, the Taycan will not lack in power, developing 402 and all the way up to 670 horsepower for the most powerful version, with a 250-mile range. Although the company did not reveal any precise information about its release date as of yet, more than 10,000 buyers have already placed a deposit on the 2020 Taycan.
3 Honda
Honda is jumping on the EV bandwagon with their announcement for the early 2020 release of Honda Urban EV. The car will be unique miniature commuter offering 150 miles of range on a single charge. It is not yet clear whether the Urban EV will be marketed in the USA and Europe as well.
2 Volkswagen
Volkswagen is scheduling the release of their first electric vehicles sometime in the second half of next year. The first car is a competitively priced compact four-door called the ID 3. The battery will allegedly power for almost 350 miles. However, VW also announced the release of their very first electric SUV, the ID Crozz, in the following year as well, with no precise release dates yet disclosed by the brand.
1 Seat
This Spanish manufacturer has also become a part of the EV trend, having announced the newest fully-electric model, called the el-Born, for release in 2020.
As is the case with Volkswagen's ID 3, the new el-Born will be built on Volkswagen's MEB architecture, with a single battery charge offering approximately 260 miles of range. The car will feature Seat's characteristic good looks and will appeal to more casual users considering its starting price of roughly 30,000.
