Bentley is having quite a phenomenal year full of action. For Bentley, the year began with the unveiling of the Flying Spur Hybrid, followed by the launch of the extended wheelbase version of the Bentayga and all-new Azure, Mulliner, and S trim options for its entire lineup. Just a few days after unveiling the ultra-exclusive Mulliner Batur, Bentley has now come up with the Flying Spur Speed, the new fastest version of the four-door grand tourer.

With the arrival of the Bentley Flying Spur Speed, Bentley has completed the model range, as the Flying Spur was the only model which didn’t have the Speed trim until now. What makes the Bentley Flying Spur Speed even more elusive is that it is the last version of the four-door grand tourer to get the iconic 6.0-liter W12 engine. As the standard Flying Spur W12 got discontinued in May 2022, the new Speed and Mulliner trims are the only versions of the Flying Spur now to get the W12 engine.

The Dark Influence For Added Sportiness

To set it apart from the other versions of the Flying Spur, Bentley has introduced a blacked-out finish for the inserts of the front grille, headlamps, and tail lamps. The Flying Spur Speed also gets signature ‘Speed’ badges on the lower wing and choices of 22-inch Speed wheels in the themes of dark tint, silver, and gloss black. There is also a different range of 22-inch sports alloy wheels available as an option, offered either in gloss black or pale Brodgar satin finish. The car even has jeweled fuel and oil filler caps to add an expensive touch of exclusivity.

Furthermore, Bentley has introduced two other optional packages for the Flying Spur Speed – Styling Specification and Blackline Specification. The Styling Specification adds a carbon-fiber front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and slim-looking boot-lid spoiler. On the other hand, the Blackline Specification swaps all the shiny chrome parts like Flying B hood ornament, radiator vanes, matrix grille, side window surrounds, and lower door and rear bumper blades with gloss black replacements.

The Influence of ‘Speed’ In The Cabin

Inspired by luxury chronograph watches, the fully-digital instrument console of the Bentley Flying Spur Speed gets performance infotainment graphics. The standard features in this version of the car include 24-way power-adjustable front seats and 14-way power-adjustable rear seats, with all the seats here having heating, ventilation, and massage functions. As extra attention to detail, Bentley has equipped the Flying Spur Speed with aluminum sports pedals, ‘Speed’ badges, and illuminated ‘Speed’ inner and outer tread plates.

For the Flying Spur Speed, Bentley has extensively used Dinamica Pure, essentially made from 73 percent recycled Polyester, and used at all the touch points of occupants. Among the 15 different interior color choices, the Flying Spur Speed comes with piano black veneer as standard. It can be replaced by dark stained Burr Walnut, Crown Cut Walnut, or Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus as no-cost alternatives, which are part of those 15 choices.

The Last Hurrah Of W12 In The Flying Spur

The Flying Spur Speed is the last version of the four-door grand tourer to be available with the 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine. For the Flying Spur Speed, Bentley has tweaked this engine, which now delivers a higher power output of 626 hp. It is almost 84 hp more than the S version, above which the Speed sits in the lineup of Flying Spur. Even the torque output of this engine is up by around 96 lb-ft and is now rated at 664 lb-ft.

With the significant increase in the power and torque outputs, the tweaked W12 allows the Bentley Flying Spur Speed to cover the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 207 mph. The 8-speed ZF dual-clutch automatic transmission from other versions of the Flying Spur is the gearbox-on-duty here.

The Iteration Of The Bentley Flying Spur For The Driver In You

The Bentley Flying Spur Speed is a car for enthusiasts who prefer having control over the steering wheel and not being chauffeured. For this reason, Bentley has tweaked the suspension and steering setups, with the Flying Spur Speed getting all-wheel steering, torque vectoring by brake, and Bentley Dynamic Ride as standard. There are three modes on offer – Comfort, Bentley, and Sport, and in each of these modes, the availability of torque distributed to the front axle differs.

In the Bentley Dynamic Ride tech, there’s a 48V system that controls an electronic actuator for altering the stiffness of the anti-roll bar. It allows the driver to have better control over the car while being challenged by cornering forces. In addition, the Flying Spur Speed also gets front discs measuring 16.54 inches, which now hold the record for largest-in-size iron brakes for a car. The red calipers for these discs come embossed with Bentley branding, though buyers can also opt for a gloss black finish at an added cost.
