The Nissan Rogue has been a popular compact crossover vehicle largely due to its roomy interior and bold exterior. The 2022 Nissan Rogue comes with a rich feature list but focuses on offering practicality and value through its spacious cabin and several high-tech infotainment and driver assistance features.

Although, compared to its competition which includes the Honda CRV, Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson, and the recently updated Mazda CX-5, the Nissan Rogue is unremarkable, to say the least. The Nissan Rogue does feature a massive cargo bay which is complemented by the high-quality materials used across the top-tier Rogue Platinum. The Nissan Rogue falls short in the driving experience criteria due to its engine barely producing enough power for this crossover. The Nissan Rogue doesn’t offer the same fun-to-ride experience as one can get in a Honda CRV or a Mazda CX5 but the car has good control and brakes that offer a respectable 60-0 stopping distance.

The most significant change made to Nissan’s best-selling crossover is its new engine. The old four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine has been replaced by a turbocharged 1.5-liter variable compression engine that increases the power output from 181 HP to 201 HP while also producing 225 lb-ft torque as compared to the previous model’s 181 lb-ft torque.

The new Nissan Rogue makes use of a new three-cylinder variable-compression engine that produces more power and torque. Now, the new engine does produce 201 HP and 225 lb-ft torque but the power still feels inadequate to have a fun riding experience. The power delivery is smooth and the car has good control over long curves which makes it a comfortable driving experience. Nissan has also offered a new transmission although it is still a Continuously Variable Transmission(CVT). The new “XTronic” transmission has 17% wider gear ratio coverage and 32% lower friction which makes the new Nissan Rogue more fuel-efficient and responsive.

The new and updated powertrain increases the rating of front-wheel-drive models to 33 MPG and reduces the 0-60 time to just over 8 seconds which gets the Nissan Rogue closer to the turbocharged Honda CRV with mid-7 second time.

The Interior And Comfort Of The Nissan Rogue

The new 2022 Nissan Rogue does appear a tad bigger than the previous generation but its actual footprint has shrunk. However, cargo space has increased to 74.1 cubic feet, and even with rear seats upright, the cargo capacity is a decent 36.3 cubic feet pitting it against the segment leaders like Honda CRV in terms of Cargo capacity.

The interior looks like a mix of different design elements borrowed from Altima and Sentra which are both successful cars in their segment. The storage cubbies, a squared-off shift knob, and a flat-bottom heated steering wheel all improve usability while entailing a modern look and feel. Nissan offers eight color schemes for the Rogue 2022 and our favorite has to be the Tan Quilted Semi-aniline Leather due to its premium look.

Nissan has not failed in the feature list either with a 12-inch digital gauge cluster that is completely configurable, a 10.8-inch heads-up display, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The interior also sports an 8-inch infotainment system which is quite intuitive and easy to use. The Rogue can seat 5 adults while offering great legroom and under-knee support. The front seats are heated and can be adjusted in 8 ways which make them quite comfortable. The base trim includes fabric seats, however, the mid and top trim models include high-quality leather that offers much more comfort. The 2022 Rogue does offer standard connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as FM/AM radio and customers can opt for a 10-speaker Bose stereo speaker setup with a dual subwoofer that is undoubtedly the best in the segment.

Nissan has offered a range of driver assistance and safety features in the 2022 Rogue to compete against its major rivals in the segment like the Mazda CX-50 or the Subaru Forester. Customers can opt for the Nissan ProPilot assist semi-autonomous driving mode in the Rogue SL, however, it comes standard in the Rogue Platinum. In addition to this, it also features automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control as standard. Since the Rogue 2022 is the revised model of the previous-gen 2021 Rogue, it is expected to match or better the safety performance of the 2021 Nissan Rogue which had shown impressive safety ranks like a 4-Star overall rating from NHTSA and an overall “good” rating from the IIHS.
