Quail Motorcycle Gathering is making a comeback after a two-year gap. For 2022, there are five build categories, including a new non-motorcycle class featuring hot rods and classic cars. This year's featured classes include Harley-Davidson XR-750, BMW /5 line-up, mini-bikes, and two-stoke icons. This year will also see the custom motorcycling builders enter the scene.
The best custom motorcycle builder will be awarded the Arlen Ness Memorial Award, by Roland Sands, in honor of the late Arlen Darryl Ness who is a well-revered name in the custom motorcycling business. For 2022, the organizers of the Quail Gathering have given importance to food, hospitality, and experience by introducing new tickets for nonparticipants who can also enjoy a buffet at a private enclosure.
And as always, the Gathering will kick off with the "Why We Ride to the Quail" group migration with 100 proficient riders who ride along for three days. The money retrieved from this ride will be donated for a good cause to save lives.

Quail Motorcycle Gathering Is Returning After A Two-Year Gap
COVID-19 and the lockdowns had put a halt on most of the world, including the beautiful gatherings that happened. The Quail Motorcycle Gathering was also affected and was disbanded after the 2019 event. Now, after a two-year hiatus, the Quail Motorcycle Gathering is returning for 2022 with a refreshed event list. The Quail gathering can be said to be the "Goodwood" of motorcycles. Classic and off-beat machines are the highlight here and range from two-stroke machines, minibikes, and iconic BMW and Harley-Davidson offerings.
What's New To The 2022 Quail Motorcycle Gathering?
As the Quail Gathering is making a comeback after a two-year gap, the organizers have refreshed the event with new elements. It adds a new non-motorcycle category that will see hot-rods and classic cars sharing space with the iconic bikes. This year will also see the Quail Motorcycle Gathering welcome various custom bike builders.
Also, the Gathering is now offering General Public Admission Only tickets, which also includes parking and gear valet services for people riding motorcycles to the event (how thoughtful). The Quail is also partnering with local food trucks for 2022 to provide a wider selection of foods and beverages in the new concessions pavilion of the Quail Lodge & Gold Club in Carmel, California.
Five Build Categories To Be Featured At The Quail Motorcycle Gathering
The first is of Harley-Davidson XR-750. This machine was a famed production race bike produced since the 1970s and was predominantly used for dirt track racing. It was quite popular in the racing world, but also found fame among the thrill-seekers including the famed daredevil Evel Knievel.
The two-stoke category is all about nostalgia. It will feature both on- and off-road machines under the two-stroke "Braaps"display and will be focusing on machines from the 1960s to the early 80s. These will include motocross, road, and even Grand Prix two-stroke 500cc motorcycles. Yamaha YX490, Honda CR500, and Yamaha RD350 are gems to look out for in this class.
Next up is the fleet of BMW /5 Series (no not the car!) specimen. This fleet of motorcycles is rich in history and was entirely made in Berlin from 1970 to 1973. Being quite ahead of their time, these Bimmers had an electric starting system and telescopic front forks.
The league of mini-bikes is sure to tickle you with humor and awe. The newest category addition for 2022 is something that doesn't involve motorcycles. Yup, the 2022 Quail Motorcycle Gathering will have a Build Category that brings in hot rods and classic cars to the scene.
"Why We Ride to the Quail" Group Ride Continues To Support A Good Cause
The most impactful part of this gathering is the "Why We Ride to the Quail" group ride that proceeds the event. Inspired by the 2013 film "Why We Ride", a group of 100 rides takes part in a rally run that starts from Moorpark, California, and ends in Carmel, California at the event location. The whole ride takes three days and passes through Ventura's lemon groves, Paso Robles' vineyard, and Big Sur's redwoods.
The 100 riders are divided into teams that raise funds via social media, family, and friends. At the end of the run, all the money collected is donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF). The group ride is organized by "Why We Ride" producer and director Bryan Carroll's MOTOvational Inc. This initiative has raised north of $40,000 for PBTF since 2014, and they intend to keep pushing the numbers further.

Official participation is limited for the Quail Motorcycle Gathering. The ride will commence on May 12, 2022, with 100 riders, and additional sponsorships open for grabs. The iconic machines will be showcased on the lush green grounds of the Quail Lodge and Golf Club.
The new General Public Admission Only tickets cost $55, and a $90 ticket is also available that includes General Public Admission and Hospitality.
