The A9 e-Tron will be Audi's flagship car to demonstrate the company's advances in artificial intelligence and driverless car technology. Further, it will also exhibit the technology and features of the upcoming 75 electric cars and 60 plug-in hybrids that the Volkswagen Group plans on developing. The car's conceptual design was first showcased in the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show under the name Aicon, and Audi claimed that this all-electric car should be highly efficient.

Preparing the car for market competition with Mercedes-Benz EQS and Jaguar XJ, it is said that Audi will equip the A9 with a cutting-edge electric drivetrain, battery cell, and autonomous driving technology.

It is rumored that this upcoming car is in the early stages of development under the company's in-house working group called 'Artemis'. At present, it has a manufacturer line codenamed 'E6' and will take the shape of a sporting sedan or a liftback. Externally, it may inherit the design of the current A7; however, internally, it may become as spacious as the current A8 model. The codename E6 shall be christened as A9 E-Tron once it passes to the production line.

As of yet, Audi has not revealed much about this new car's specifications, but taking references from the concept designs of the Elaine SUV and the Aicon Saloon, here are some things that shall be special about the 2024 Audi A9 e-Tron.

The body design of the new E9 E-Tron shall feature a style that is often seen in many Hollywood sci-fi movies. The chances are that it will be a four-door EV with an 18-foot long body. The inside of the vehicle shall look more like a lounge with a seating capability of four, accessed by front and rear-hinged doors. The driving console shall be replaced by a command strip operated through an OLED touchscreen and augmented reality.

The A9 e-Tron shall be an autonomous vehicle, and with its introduction, Audi is probably evolving from the conventional driver-centered interior arrangements. The car shall not have a traditional driving console, dashboard, gears, pedals, or rows for the seats. Instead, the new design may redefine the concept of car interior as lavish lounges with state-of-art digital infotainment and communication systems.

The driving part shall be taken care of by the latest level-5 autonomous driving technology powered by Audi's super-advanced artificial intelligence machinery. The vehicle shall also have 5G connectivity functions, including extensive use of 'Car-to-X' features, augmented reality, and Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrades.

The concept SUV Elaine has demonstrated some brilliant artificial intelligence-guided remote parking functions. These allow the rider to step out of the vehicle and leave the car on its own to park itself in a multi-story garage or align itself in battery charging bays. We can expect something similar to appear in the new A9.

Further, the 'light companion', a mini drone featured in the concept car Aicon that lights up the path of passengers in case of exiting the vehicle in the dark, may also be included in the new car. Plus, it will have a Car-to-X feature that will alert the driver about the road condition ahead and the Over-the-Air system that will upgrade vehicles' software with the latest updates using the internet connection.

The concerts Elaine and Aicon were unveiled in 2017, and the A9 is expected to be released in 2024. So, it is expected that Audi will advance considerably on the technological front in these seven years. That advancement may reflect the vehicle's core functions, such as an upgraded electric powertrain system, more powerful and longer-lasting batteries, and more practical electric motors.

The new car shall have four electric motors generating 256 kW of power and will be aligned with a large 95 kWh lithium-ion battery. The powerful motors will be capable of sprinting from 0 to 60mph in just 4.5 seconds, and the battery shall cover 800 km on a single charge. The vehicle will also be capable of inductive charging, i.e., just aligning nearby a charging station will be enough to charge the vehicle without actually plugging it with a wire to a port.

The upcoming A9 E-Tron will be a glimpse of what the future of automobile engineering and artificial intelligence shall look like. Google and Tesla have already entered this field, and Audi is gearing up in the pursuit to claim the market share in autonomous electric vehicles. With an array of EV vehicles coming up in line, the Volkswagen Group can be a significant contributor in reducing automobile emissions, and if this car succeeds in winning the hearts of people, then the future of electric automobiles looks bright for Audi.
