The truck we’ve all been waiting for is finally coming in 2020. Since its initial release in 1966, the Ford Bronco has become an icon of the SUV market, demonstrating the off-road and towing capability of a pickup truck and the usefulness of a van. This is due to its large cargo capacity and versatility as a people carrier. Not to mention its iconic design that has been strongly influenced by the F-series pickup trucks of each respective generation.

Ford has long hyped the re-release of the Bronco. In recent years the luxury off-road SUV market has been largely dominated by Toyota and Land Rover. However, Ford has made it clear we should have big expectations for this generation of Broncos.

This segment is the latest to be influenced by the “classic revival” trend of the last couple of decades. Seen mostly in muscle cars and pony cars such as the Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang. The timing of the 2020 Bronco’s release is ideal because early Bronco models are getting to be quite expensive amongst collectors.

There has been lots of speculation surrounding the exact details of the Bronco's new design. Many believe the new Bronco platform will be based on the existing Ford Ranger platform. This will give it a shorter wheelbase.

We can also expect a 2-door variant of the Bronco which harkens back to the first generation, which was only released as a 2-door. There is even some speculation that there will be a pick-up model of the Bronco as well.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the pickup model but I’d prefer if they’d release a roadster version as they did in 1966. It’d be a perfect one size fits all kind of vehicle. Capable in the winter and as a daily as well as a great weekend car in the summer with lots of cargo capacity.

What can I say, I’m a fan of quirky vehicles. Despite no word of a roadster option, the Bronco will prove to be an amazing vehicle all round.

Even though we might not see a roadster version of the Bronco, the latest generation is expected to have removable doors and roof, similar to a Jeep Wrangler. Additionally, it is likely to have a manual transmission option available. Often a feature that is not offered in this day and age of dual-clutch transmissions and electric vehicles.

Speaking of which, there is supposedly a hybrid version of the Bronco that will be offered. Something like that would be incredible, and in my opinion, much preferred over the Mustang Mach-E crossover oddity.

Ford initially announced the revival of the Bronco at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Ford’s Joe Hinrichs revealed that the American built Ford Bronco would be “a no-compromise midsize 4x4 for the thrill-seekers who want freedom and off-road functionality, with the space and versatility of an SUV. It's capable of conquering everything from your daily commute to gravel roads and boulders.” A big promise from a company that recently did away with their sedans and cars in favor of SUVs and pickups.

As we can see there has been a lot of changes in the Ford Motor Company as of late. Which might be seen as an effort to stay relevant in this quickly evolving auto market. However, I believe it’s a smart move to focus on their strengths as an automaker.

Ford has confirmed that they will release the new 2020 Bronco in the Spring of this year.
