Pininfarina isn’t your average automaker. This brand has designed some of the coolest cars in the industry. Compared to most brands though, Pininfarina certainly isn’t as established, but that’s certainly about to change. Why? Well, this is the brand behind some of the most jaw-dropping designs that have become the industry’s ever-so-popular vehicles, including the stunning Dino 246 GTS, and the modern Sergio, along with other installments. Pininfarina has also made a plethora of designs for well-established brands, including Maserati, Peugeot, and Alfa Romeo, just to name a few. With contributions like these, Pininfarina is a name that will always go down in history.

At some point, we’re guessing the executives assembled to discuss a change – something that would alter the brand’s direction forever, and eventually become the best decision ever made. You see, over the last few years, the Italian design house narrowed its focus on futuristic concepts, all of which broke the internet at the first viewing. That’s right. The first popular model was the H600. This pioneering luxury sedan debuted at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show and made a big statement. It was later followed by the K550 SUV and the K750 SUV in 2017. To add to the huge momentum, the design house decided to work on a newer all-electric Gran Turismo, with all the luxury refinements and high-tech features. In 2018, the anticipated Pininfarina HK GT Concept was finally released.

Like the rest of the futuristic models, the Pininfarina HK GT was created under the partnership of Pininfarina and the Chinese-based tech firm, Hybrid Kinetic Group. This model came in a unique exterior styling featuring a large, extended grille, and Gullwing Doors, among many exciting features.

Tagged as the eco-sustainable Gran Turismo, the Pininfarina HK GT was set to offer power, a great driving experience, and the comfiest interior. Here's everything that made the Pininfarina HK GT a hit concept.

The first time we saw the Pininfarina HK GT was in January at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. The HK GT’s design quickly became something we just couldn’t stop talking about. The Pininfarina HK GT has a striking compact exterior, with an exciting coupe shape and soft surfaces, finely structured by subtle sharp lines, boasting its speed and presence.

At the front, the HK GT has a huge grille that spreads on the entire front end. With its blue lighting, the grille looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. It has a long bonnet with a perfectly-curved shape, and the “Hybrid Kinetic” lettering at the front, bowing to the partnership between Pininfarina and the Chinese Tech Company.

Besides the long and sleek body construction, the HK GT has been given the right proportions in such a way as to pay homage to the brand’s history, with a resistible traditional gran Turismo body style and attitude. In dimension, the HK GT measures 4980 mm in length, 1365 mm in height and its wheelbase is about 2975 mm long. The coolest features of its exterior are the Gullwing doors, which contribute to an overall sleeker and bolder personality.

The Pininfarina HK GT Comes With An Organic And Ultramodern Interior

This concept has one of the most unique interiors we’ve ever seen. The entire inside has been padded with high-quality materials that prove its modern character, and given Pininfarina’s reputation, this addition went beyond all expectations, again.

Once you’re done drooling over the gullwing doors and you step inside the Pininfarina HK GT, you won’t able to take your eyes off the futuristic dashboard, which comes in a white cream finish. Unlike the norm, the Pininfarina HK GT’s infotainment system has been positioned on the front passenger side and comes with connectivity and entertainment add-ons. The car’s four seats are upholstered in an orange contrast stitching, adding a sense of luxury to the interior, and boasting the Gran Turismo tradition.

Another outstanding feature of the interior is the steering wheel, which gets a hexagonal shape, with buttons and switches that are only a thumb away.

Everything You Should Know About Its Powertrain And Drivetrain

Normally, you’d expect something like this to have a V-12 engine – a powertrain that would put it at par with the Lamborghini Veneno, or Ferrari’s 250 GTO, and other high-powered sports cars. And quite frankly, it does give off that V-12 feeling. But what you’ll find here is an all-electric powertrain.

The Pininfarina HK GT gets its power from a 20-kWh battery pack, which pairs with a 2-speed transmission and transfers power to four integrated electric motors located at each wheel. When combined, the motors provide an overall 1,073 horsepower.

Thanks to the power pack, the Pininfarina HK GT can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just under about 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of about 217 mph. One factor that doesn’t cut it is the range though. While the most powerful electric cars can drive for up to 200 miles on a single charge, the Pininfarina HK GT’s battery pack can only take you as far as 99 miles, which is a huge diminishing factor. Since the car has a regenerative braking feature, you would certainly drive a bit longer than expected, conceivably.

But, according to the brand, this all-electric luxury car offers up to three different range extenders, which include the low-emission microturbine, an internal combustion engine, and a no-emission hydrogen fuel cell. These extenders can up the distance to an impressive 621 miles. The HK GT has a 52-percent front and 48-percent rear weight distribution, providing an ideal balance that improves its performance.
