If you have ever wondered how an electric pickup truck or SUV would stack up against a gas or diesel powered version in terms of weight, YouTube channel The Fast Lane Truck has the answers.

While EVs have a reputation for being cleaner and quicker, that doesn't necessarily translate to being lighter.

Check out the YouTube video to see a weight test for a Ram diesel pickup truck against a GMC Hummer EV and a Ford F-150 Lightning.

The Big-And-Heavy Ram Cummins Diesel, Vs The Ford F-150 Lightning

The first truck that gets weighed is a Ram diesel, which is a big, heavy duty, Cummins diesel-powered pickup truck.

It is a traditional, powerful truck that defines what the pickup truck world has traditionally stood for, particularly for people that use their trucks for work and heavy hauling.

The Ram weighs in at 7,980 pounds with a front axle that is heavier than the rear.

This weight distribution is mainly due to the diesel engine which adds a bit of weight, but the heaviness of the truck helps with payload and towing.

As for the sticker price for this Ram, it comes in at around $61,000 - for anyone that needs a hard-working truck, this Ram is among the best out there.

After weighing the Ram, it's time to check out the electric vehicles which are at opposite extremes of each other - the F-150 Lightning is one of the more affordable options when it comes to electric pickup trucks while the Hummer EV is among the most expensive.

The Ford F-150 is a relatively-light pickup truck but batteries are heavy and the Lightning version weighs in at 6,120 pounds.

In the case of the Lightning, the front axle is slightly heavier, but it is the closest to having a 50/50 weight distribution among the three.

The Lightning costs around $46,000, and from a towing perspective, it can tow approximately 7,000 pounds in comparison to the 20,000 pound towing capacity for a Ram (it also weighs about 600 pounds more than a normal gas powered Ford F-150).

The final test is the GMC Hummer EV pickup which has a sticker price of $114,000.

The weight of the Hummer is the heaviest at 9,440 pounds, and it is the only vehicle of the three that is heavier in the rear than in the front, primarily due to the spare tire setup.

Interestingly, if you added a Honda Civic onto the weight of an F-150 Lightning, it would still weigh less than the Hummer EV.

Finally, the maximum towing weight of the Hummer EV is 7,500 pounds - proving that the most powerful, expensive and heavy vehicle doesn't necessarily make the strongest hauler.
