He was convinced to buy the company by legendary owner and founder Ferruccio Lamborghini. He decided that the first car should be an all-around celebration of the man who founded Bugatti in 1909. That is why the car was presented on September 15, 1991, exactly 110 years after Ettore Bugatti's birth.

8 The Engine Has Four Turbochargers

This Bugatti had one of the biggest and most powerful engines that any car has ever seen. The EB110 was powered by a 60-valve 3.5-liter V12 that had four turbochargers. This car was blistering fast as it had a top speed of 220.6 mph and it had an insane acceleration as it was capable to go from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.2 seconds.

7 Bugatti Developed A Le Mans Version In Six Months

Romano Artioli made the decision to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours in January 1994 with the competition less than 180 days away. The company had to go through different hurdles starting from the fact that due to the huge engine the car was quite heavy at 1830 kg (4034). Also, they had to do ABS testing past 200 mph something that no one had ever done before.

Despite few issues, the Bugatti was extremely competitive for 23 hours of the race with the only issue being the turbos overheating. The car was sixth for most of the competition however after 230 laps and 47 minutes before the ending of the race, the pilot lost control and crashed the EB110. Bugatti was forced to retire the car but it was still an outstanding result as in only 6 months, they got the car ready for one of the toughest races in the world.

6 It Was The World's Fastest Car When It Debuted

When it first came out the EB110 had a top speed of 220.6 mph, it was barely faster than the Jaguar XJ220. However, in typical Italian fashion, there is a possibility that the top speed got a bit inflated. There are different reports that the actual speed was 218 mph.

However, it did not really matter anyways as when the incredible McLaren F1 came out it had an astonishing speed of 240 mph, which made the race to be the fastest car in the world, already over even before starting.

5 Without The EB110 There Would Be No Veyron And Chiron

Romano Artioli revived a brand that had faded in the memory of anyone as it had not produced anything in years. 3 It Had A SuperSport Version

You might think that four turbos and a V12 that produces 553 horsepower might be enough power, however someone at Bugatti probably felt it was not. That is why they built the SuperSport version which was even more powerful. The engine was further tuned to produce an incredible 603 horsepower and could push the car past 221 mph.

The SS was so fast that it could go from 0 to 120 mph in just 12.6 seconds. This car was however way more expensive than the basic model with a starting price of over $300,000.

2 The EB110 Was The First Car Bugatti Built In Years

The EB110 came to life in 1992 but no one had seen a new Bugatti since 1952. This brand used to be true royalty in the automotive world before World War II as the company had a tradition of building incredibly powerful cars. Bugatti won the first ever Monaco Grand Prix in 1929.

However, the legendary brand never recovered from the war as the factory was completely destroyed after the bombings. The company tried to revive its name after the war but unfortunately Ettore Bugatti died in 1947. The business started to decline until it ceased operations in 1952.
