When it comes to cars, there are people who want to be able to experience them in a host of different ways. There are some who enjoy driving, and they own a certain type of car or truck so that they can get a certain driving experience every time they go out. Other people love to work on cars, and these are the kinds of people who make sure to do all of their own maintenance. Some of them will even work on upgrading their vehicle in fun ways. Then, there are those who enjoy watching great car shows that show people building custom vehicles or restoring classic and antique gems into something amazing.

One of the channels that do a great job in airing some great car shows is the Discovery Channel. The Discovery Channel debuted in June of 1985 and has since set itself apart as one of the most popular channels on television. They're a channel that has found great success in airing various car television shows. "Street Outlaws," "Diesel Brothers," and "Sticker Shock" are some of the car shows that they air, but they aren't the only ones.

One of the shows that have created a large fan base and earned some great notoriety is "Fast N' Loud." This is a show that follows the car shenanigans and journeys of the employees of Gas Monkey Garage. The star and owner, Richard Rawlings, has taken Gas Monkey Garage to new levels, to the point of it becoming its own brand. Here are 20 facts about Richard Rawlings, the employees, and the show that all their fans should know.

19 Tom Smith and Jordan Butler

via justwatch

Many avid fans will remember the episode where two of the most popular "monkeys" (a name given to the employees at Gas Monkey Garage) were fired from the garage and the show.

Jordan Butler and Tom Smith were two popular employees, but they were let go for reasons that we all thought that we knew: showing up late and work performance. According to TMZ.com, that isn't the case.

They were reportedly fired because they allowed a fan to take a photo near Rawlings' Rolls-Royce, and when they were reprimanded by a manager, they told the manager to "Chill the f--- out!" This didn't go over well, and it was said they were fired a few hours later.

18 Misfit Garage

via putlockers.film

"Fast N' Loud" fans know that after Tom and Jordan were fired, they became integral cast members on the spin-off series "Misfit Garage." The mission of these guys is to show that money isn't everything and that a group of "misfits" can execute high-level rebuilds just like the guys at Gas Monkey Garage can. It's funny to see Richard come and collect the rent, as he's the owner of the building in which Fired Up Garage is located. What most fans don't know is that Richard Rawlings also serves as an executive producer for the show as well. He fired a couple of guys just to have them continue to work for him in some capacity. Interesting.

17 The Shart Cat

via www.dreamcars.com

Gas Monkey Garage built this 1967 Dodge Dart to answer of an eighth-mile drag challenge set out by the YouTube channel Roadkill. The "Monkeys" would ultimately win, but not without a host of issues. The show showed problems with the computer and the transmission that needed to be dealt with but not the extent of the problems. The transmission required two to be used and custom torque converters to be built from scratch. The computer also needed to be recoded in order to trick it into running without all of the systems that they took out in order to make it a race car. These problems were minimized on the show but, in reality, were huge in the life of the car. The "Shart Car" was later sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction.

16 Those "Historic" Firebirds

via www.discovery.com

Rawlings and his crew spent a lot of time and money to redo these "Holy Grail" Firebirds that were said to be the prototype models that were to help Pontiac figure out if they wanted to produce them.

On the show, they said that once restored, these cars would be worth more than $300,000.

HotRod.com released information that this couldn't be farther from the truth. They reported that these weren't prototypes; they were just the first two production Firebirds off the line. There was nothing truly special about these cars other than the fact that they were the first two to roll out of production.

15 Richard Rawlings vs Jesse James

via www.motorcycle-usa.com

Many people know Jesse James as the "Monster Garage" host or for his high-profile marriage to Sandra Bullock. Many don't realize that he and Richard Rawlings had a little rivalry that brought about some words and "ugly" pranks.

In 2010, James moved to Austin, Texas to continue his car and motorcycle career.

After moving there, he entered into a "car guy" rivalry with Richard Rawlings that culminated in James having a dump truck full of horse manure sent to Rawlings' shop and dumped in the middle of the driveway.

14 Shop Location

via www.iconvehicledynamics.com

Many times, people will refer to their business being located in the nearest major city. They do this so that people will have a general idea of where they're located. This isn't the case with many of the shows on Discovery Channel. The Gas Monkey Garage is located in Dallas, Texas and is a major business (and even tourism draw) within the city and even has hundreds of fans visit every week. They sell their merchandise in the front of the shop with a portion of the front of the business dedicated to merchandise and allowing fans a glimpse into Gas Monkey Garage.

13 Weird Funny Business Going On At The Restaurant

via www.feedweekly.com

The restaurant business is one of the most difficult in which to be successful, especially when a scandal arises. The DallasObserver.com reported that in 2015 the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission conducted a sting referred to as "Bottom's Up." This sting was to target establishments suspected of passing of bottom-shelf spirits as their top-shelf cousins. It's said that the Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill was one of the establishments. They reported that the sting found that the Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill was passing off bottom-shelf tequila for Patron tequila.

12 Gas Monkey Energy Drink

via www.pinterest.com

Tequila isn't where the Gas Monkey brand stops as far as beverages are concerned. Richard Rawlings has also decided to get in on the energy-drink craze with his Gas Monkey Energy drink. This drink is a sponsor seen on the side of various cars at the drag strip. It's so successful that it can be found sold at stores all over the United States. Say what you want about Richard Rawlings, but he's undoubtedly a smart businessman and has created a brand that's recognized all over the United States. He may be a polarizing man, but he knows how to take risks and do what's best for his brand.

11 Gas Monkey Foundation

Businessman or not, he's also paying it forward in a great way. In 2014, he started the Gas Monkey Foundation. They accept all cars, trucks, motorcycles, and recreational vehicles, regardless of the condition that they're in, fix them up, and sell them. The money goes to the foundation. He's helping a lot of different charities such as No Child Left Behind, Sharkosa Wildlife Ranch, Military Service Initiative, Cannonball Memorial Run, and Unicorn Children's Foundation. He's made sure to use his name to do good for the world as well.

10 Gas Monkey Live!

via www.blog.fcanorthamerica.com

Richard Rawlings has the Gas Monkey Garage, the energy drink, tequila, sponsors, and racecars—and that's not the end of it. He also owns a restaurant known as the 'Gas Monkey Bar and Grill,' and across the street from the restaurant is another venture of his. It's called 'Gas Monkey Live,' and it's a state-of-the-art music venue in Dallas. He's had some historic rock and metal artists, including Jane's Addiction, Slayer, and Dwight Yoakam, perform at this venue. He's a man that knows what the people like, and he's not afraid to create a business venture that capitalizes on what people like (cars, music, and food).

9 Fast N' Loud vs Street Outlaws

via www.dragzine.com

I'm a fan of both shows, and I've watched both of the Mega Race sagas as they unfolded. Street Outlaws vs. Gas Monkey Garage were races on eighth-mile tracks.

In the first installment of the Mega Race, Big Chief drove The Crow, and in the second Mega Race, Ryan Martin drove his Fireball Camaro. And the outcome of both resulted in the Fast N' Loud crew getting beaten.

They were classic races of "street" guys vs the "rich" guy, and the street guys showed them how it was done. Richard had to learn that money can't buy you an experienced driver and a win.

8 Aaron Kaufman

via www.gasmonkeygarage.com

Most "Fast N' Loud" fans know Aaron Kaufman as the original head mechanic, builder, and mastermind behind the builds at Gas Monkey Garage. He would lead the team for numerous seasons until he felt it was time for him to do other things. He left the show and was given his own spin-off called "Shifting Gears." He opened a shop of his own known as 'Arclight Fabrications' where he was able to do the type of builds that he wanted to do, the way that he wanted to do them. It was difficult for some fans, but you have to respect a man who follows his heart.

7 Jason Aker

via www.gasmonkeygarage.com

Jason was originally called in to oversee the restoration of the #1 and #2 Firebirds. Jason owned his own shop in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma called 'Worldwide Muscle Cars' and was an expert in original restoration. Once Aaron left, he would stay on permanently as the shop foreman. It's known to fans that he's a big-time Shelby Mustang fan, so much so that he goes all around the country as a Shelby judge at national shows. He's a guy that knows his stuff and is the one that tries to keep the "Monkeys" in line.

6 Christie Brimberry

via www.heightline.com

Christie is affectionately referred to as the "Zookeeper" of the Gas Monkey crew. She's Richard's assistant and secretary for the shop. On the show, she only hints at her personal life, like that she has six children and that she's married. Her social media reveals a little more about her. Her husband, Daron, is a hairdresser and is actually Richard's hairdresser. She also recently battled cancer, and after a battle that lasted a little more than a year, she was declared cancer-free in December of 2017. Congratulations Christie! Good luck keeping those guys in line.

5 Tony Cano

via www.gasmonkeygarage.com

He's Mike Coy's right-hand man in the paint booth, and he joined the Gas Monkey Garage team in 2016. According to GasMonkeyGarage.com, he didn't know anything about painting until his friend bought him a book from the historic House of Kolor so that he could learn a little before he helped that friend paint his 1983 Cutlass. Once the Cutlass was finished, it was entered in Autorama, where it ended up winning 2nd place. Apparently, he was a natural, and he decided to continue painting. And the rest is history.

4 Mike Coy

via www.curvetube.com

Mike Coy is the head painter for Gas Monkey Garage and also aids in bodywork when his services are necessary. He's the one that's always getting mad when the Monkey's take too long on a project, limiting his time to do the paint job that's required for the particular project. Paint is the last thing that gets done, and many times, he's given the cars to paint with a lot less time than he'd like to have to do custom paint jobs. He's known as a clown on the show and isn't afraid to pull a prank or two.

3 Jeremy Cheatham

via www.gasmonkeygarage.com

Jeremy started out as a friend of Aaron Kaufman's, as stated on GasMonkeyGarage.com. His primary position involves dealing with fabrication and suspensions within the shop. It's his job to make sure that the frames are straight and that the suspensions are ready to hit the highway. He's one of the youngest members of the crew, but he became a grandfather in 2015. But he has a long history in the industry. He's been working in the industry for almost 2 decades, and he also owned 3 shops before he came to be employed at Gas Monkey Garage, thanks to Aaron Kaufman.

2 Charles Cimino

via www.pictame.com

Charles is the "class clown" of the Gas Monkey crew as can be seen in this photo. His nickname on the Gas Monkey Garage website is 'sleeves' because he never has any and has "sleeves" of tattoos instead. It's safe to say that he's one of the hotties on the show (aside from Richard, of course).  The Gas Monkey website did a video series called "Meet the Monkeys," where Charles revealed that before working at the garage, he installed audio-visual equipment like televisions and cameras. That's why he's always the one that's working on the electrical systems.

1 Daphne Kaminski

via www.pinterest.com

"Fast N' Loud" fans know Daphne as the one that controls the money at the garage. She's the one that lets Richard know when he's spending too much and the one that says he can't have any more money for beer (which he really hates). She's also his sister and had a big part in Richard's upbringing as well. According to GasMonkeyGarage.com, she's also been involved with Richard in all of his business ventures. Let's face it—she's probably someone that Richard trusts with his money, and he knows that she'll always be honest with him when it's necessary.
