For decades, Ford’s F-Series has been among the best-selling vehicles in the United States. The initial release of the F-150 Lightning marked the brand’s introduction to the electrified truck scene, gaining an advantage over GM and Stellantis. While it hasn’t been on the market for a long time, the Ford F-150 Lightning continues to be one of the most significant American automobiles of the twentieth century, paying homage to its long-lasting predecessor.

Ford has announced certain improvements for the 2023 model year, in addition to resuming orders for the F-150 Lightning. The base model of the all-electric vehicle now has an increased range of 10 miles, or a total of 240 miles. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist is now an option for the vehicle as well. This technology automatically manages the steering, throttle, and brake inputs when towing. Avalanche Gray and Azure Gray, two additional colors, are also added to the palette. The new shades take the place of Smoked Quartz, Atlas Blue, and Ice Blue Silver.

One downside of the F-150 Lightning is that it now starts at $55,974 for the Pro version, which is a significant $12,000 price increase from its predecessor. And, because of supply chain issues and rising material costs, prices for more premium models have also increased significantly. This time, the new Ford F-150 Lightning confidently challenges the Chevrolet Silverado EV and the GMC Sierra EV.

Taking a look at the evolution of the famous pickup truck, it's clear that the F-150 Lightning takes its styling a notch higher than its conventional sibling. At the front fascia, the single headlight bar and futuristic front grille blend seamlessly with the rest of the car's angular appearance. Black front and back bumpers, dynamically bending LED headlights, a Carbon Black grille, and 18-inch wheels with black high gloss pockets are all included in the basic trim, which is impressive.

The wheels and tires increase in size to 22 inches as you move along the range. Body-colored bumpers, a Geometric Gray-ion fine Satin Metallic grille, and distinctive front illumination are available on the XLT for an additional cost. In addition to getting 20-inch Dark Carbonized Gray alloys, the Lariat also gets a convenient motorized tailgate and LED box lighting. Its curb weight is around 6,015 lbs in its base form, but it can weigh up to 6,893 lbs in Platinum form, because of all the batteries.

In dimensions, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning measures 232.7 inches long, 78.3 inches tall, and 96 inches wide, and it rolls a 145.5-inch wheelbase. The front and rear tracks are 68.1/68.3 inches wide, respectively. The Lightning is available in nine different colors in its standard configuration, starting from Antimatter Blue, to Carbonized Gray.

Across the lineup, each model has a dual-motor configuration that drives all four wheels simultaneously using a single-speed automatic transmission. In comparison to the Extended Range variant, which has 580 horsepower and the same torque, the Standard Range model has 452 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque.

With the more potent engine, the F-150 Lightning Extended Range can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds, completing the quarter-mile in just 12.7 seconds at 107 mph. The standard model can tow up to 7,700 lbs, while the Extended Range variant can tow 10,000 lbs, but only in XLT or Lariat form.

The F-150 also has some off-road stripes, with an approach angle of 24.4 degrees, a departure of 23.6 degrees, and a ramp break-over angle of 17.6 degrees. The normal F-150's values, in contrast, are as much as 24.9/26.3/23.8 degrees, in part due to the gas-powered F-150's availability in several body types. The F-150 Lightning has 8.4 inches of ground clearance, which is an inch less than the F-150. With that, it’s quite clear that the traditionally powered F-150 is a superior option for more demanding off-roading.

Whether you select the luxurious Platinum or the work-ready Pro model, the cabin feels light and contemporary. The standard displays in base versions include a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a 12-inch digital productivity screen. Although the infotainment screen in the base-level vehicle is smaller and there are a few more hard plastics on the dashboard and vinyl seats, everything seems quite well constructed. Even on the entry model, there are some nice standard amenities like dual-zone automatic temperature control and heated front seats. If you're prepared to pay more, though, you can also have ventilated leather seats and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed sound system.

A basic AM/FM stereo, three years of trial navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and the SYNC 4 operating system with improved automatic speech recognition are available in the Pro, along with the standard 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. SiriusXM with 360L is available on the XLT and higher grades. The infotainment screen on the Lariat trim is larger, measuring 15.5 inches, and has a Bang & Olufsen sound system with HD Radio. The SYNC 4 infotainment system, as well as both screens, are simple to use and intuitive. The Platinum, with its 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed sound system, has the greatest audio system.

The Ford F-150 Lightning's cabin is incredibly roomy, with enough leg and headroom for both the front and rear occupants. The high roof line of the F-150 Lightning makes getting in and out of the vehicle a pleasure for tall people.
