Fiat Chrysler is recalling over a million Ram trucks thanks to a faulty tailgate issue.

The recall affects 1.4 million trucks worldwide, with the bulk of them in the United States. About 1.14 vehicles are in the US, 260,000 are in Canada, with the remaining 45,000 or so either in Mexico or the rest of the world. The recall affects certain Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks produced between the 2015 and 2017 model years.

At issue is the power locking tailgate, which may malfunction unexpectedly and cause the tailgate to open without warning. This issue only affects Ram trucks with the power locking tailgate, and only on certain bed sizes. If you have a short bed (5 foot, 7 inches) or the regular bed (6 foot, 4 inches) then you might be in trouble. Those with the extended 8-foot beds are fine.

According to Fiat Chrysler, the "tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving." This can cause your load to spill all over the road or possibly even hit the person behind you on the highway.

FCA is aware of no accidents or injuries as a result of this fault, but better to be safe than sorry and get this fixed as soon as possible.

The recall begins September 14th with owners being notified by mail. Dealers will replace the faulty tailgate actuator limiter tab free of charge.

This recall follows in the footsteps of an even larger recall from last May that affected cars across the entire Fiat Chrysler lineup, from Dodges and Jeeps to Chryslers and Maseratis. Over 4.8 million cars were affected by a possible fault in the power control module that handles the cruise control system of each vehicle.

With the module damaged, its possible for the car’s cruise control to become unable to stop. This would result in the car or truck remaining at the same speed regardless of whether the driver deactivated cruise control or hit the brakes. If you’re having Speed flashbacks, you’re not too far off.

That recall should be wrapping up, but all these expensive recalls are likely wearing FCA down.
